Appearance

Let's start with a top view.

Nice glossy plastic along the edges is slightly spoiled by horizontal guide grooves that reduce solidity.

At the ends of the plastic is more "budget", matte.

You and I are already used to the fact that the PS logo has stopped rotating since the days of the regular PS3 slim. By the way, in this perspective, Sonya resembles a futuristic stealth design.

And now about the most interesting - about the drive.

It opens like this - we take the console.

We press the mechanical (horror!) button to the left of the logo.

It has been noticed: when installed horizontally, the lid rumbles terribly and moves away sharply, when installed vertically - smoothly and almost silently. Paradox.

The fan noise level is slightly higher than that of the conventional slim, the drive noise level is slightly lower than that of the conventional slim.

Heat dissipation is extremely low. This allows us to hope that the user will never see YLOD .

But what really annoys is the manual change / installation of the disk.

The problem is that even with a fixed stand, this operation has to be carried out extremely carefully and with two hands.

It is especially difficult to adapt after switching from the usual Slim, and even more difficult from the almost silent drive transfer mechanism to FAT. I wouldn’t be surprised if you drop a phrase like “What’s that! Fuck!"

PS3 super slim turned out to be a very good console with a reasonable balance of cost reduction and technical progress, however, not without certain extremes on the part of Sony manufacturers.

Cheap plastic, manual disk change and controversial design border on two lasers in the drive, a 500GB hard drive and a cool aluminum vertical stand.

If this is the first time you want to immerse yourself in the amazing world of PlayStation 3, I recommend starting this action with Super Slim. The transition from PS2 slim will be especially smooth, because consoles are similar in some ways.

In our opinion, the Sony PlayStation 3 Super Slim, although it has become thinner than its predecessors, has received an ambiguous design, which makes the console look like a budget one.

As it is now fashionable among game consoles, the body of the console from Sony is half matte and half glossy, like the Xbox 360 E. True, unlike the competitor, the matte part of the PS3 is made corrugated - such a surface looks unusual, but, for example, it will be more difficult to clean it. The console dimensions are 290 × 60 × 230 mm, weight is 2.1 kg, so it is lighter and shorter, but slightly wider than the newer PlayStation 4. On the right side of the case there is a control panel where you can turn on the console and open the drive, and he is very unusual. Unlike the previous version of PS 3 Slim, which used a slotted optical drive, in Super Slim we see a completely different way of placing disks: the right half of the case lid slides to the left, revealing a tray into which the disk drops. This is inconvenient - the drive can only be closed manually, and besides, you need to keep in mind that you will need free space above the set-top box to pull out and insert discs.

Interfaces

The PlayStation 3 Super Slim game console received a good set of connectors, Wi-Fi support and an optical drive that reads Blu-ray discs.

From the connectors, along with modern HDMI and a couple of USB ports, you can also find older ones - an AV connector and an optical audio output, which have already been abandoned in newer consoles such as Xbox One and PS 4.

The technical characteristics of the Super Slim version have not changed, remaining the same as the previous model - PS 3 Slim. The set-top box uses a Cell processor, created using a 45 nm process technology, operating at a frequency of up to 3.2 GHz. The NVIDIA RSX accelerator is responsible for the graphics. The amount of memory is 256 MB of RAM (XDR) and 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory. Today it does not look impressive, but thanks to good optimization it is possible to get a decent picture with HD-resolution support. In addition, the cooling system of the set-top box works efficiently (no overheating) and silently. The graphics, of course, look simpler than on PS 4 or Xbox One, but still look good.

A 500 GB hard disk is used as data storage. In addition, you can independently change the disk to a more capacious one.

Joystick

The DualShock 3 wireless joystick has remained the same, not a bit changed from its predecessors from the same generation. The gamepad can be called convenient for any games, it is ergonomic and comfortable in the hand. The not very large joystick has many controls at once: a D-pad on the left, 4 main buttons on the right, Start, Select and PS keys in the center, two analog turrets below them and four triggers on the top and back of the case. There is even a microUSB port on the top end.

Despite the fact that the console is already ten years old, the company has not yet abandoned its support and continues to add various functions. New games are also coming to PS 3, although a number of exclusive and advanced games will only be available on PS 4.
