How to make a ring from a coin diagram. How to make a ring from a coin. DIY coin ring. History of the idea

Nowadays various unusual jewelry is in fashion. Things made with high quality by hand emphasize the uniqueness of their owner. We invite you to get acquainted with a master class on how to make a ring from an ordinary coin.

When making a coin ring, it is very important to first choose the right coin.

When selecting a coin, pay attention to the following parameters:

  • safety;
  • strength;
  • color;
  • size.

Coin rings made from materials such as silver, brass, steel, and bronze are not dangerous. You must be careful with coins containing nickel and copper, as they can cause skin diseases, allergies and poisoning of the body.

The colors of the coins are bronze-yellow and silver-steel. Bronze-yellow coins include Russian 10 and 50 kopecks, 1, 5, 10 and 50 rubles and Ukrainian 25 and 50 kopecks, 1 and 2 hryvnia.

You need to pay attention to the size of the coin, since a small coin cannot be used to make a large diameter ring. Regardless of the year of issue in Russia, coins of the following sizes: small - with a denomination of up to 1 ruble, medium - from 1 to 10 rubles; large ones - 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 and 100 rubles. In Ukraine, the size of coins in ascending order is as follows: the smallest are 1, 2 and 10 kopecks, then 25 and 50 kopecks, the largest are 5 kopecks, 1, 2 and 5 hryvnia.

For example, 50 kopecks of the USSR before 1931 are made of silver, the American Sacagawea dollar is made of a bronze alloy and is good for making rings with a large diameter, some EU coins are made of bronze alloys and of various sizes.

DIY coin ring: master class

You will need:

  • coin;
  • vice;
  • power tools with attachments for grinding and polishing;
  • drill;
  • steel spoon;
  • a metal platform that acts as an anvil;
  • fine-grained sandpaper.
  1. We place the coin on the “anvil” edge-on, apply a spoon to it with the convex part and apply gentle blows evenly along the entire edge of the coin. We periodically check the shape of the workpiece.
  2. We stop when the edge of the coin becomes the width required for our ring.
  3. Using a nail or pointed object, mark the center of the coin.
  4. We drill a small hole in the center of the coin with a drill, stopping the drill as soon as its end passes through the coin. The drill will jam in the metal, allowing us to complete the next step. Be careful as the ring becomes hot when drilling and you may get burned.
  5. We take coarse sandpaper, and, turning on the drill so that the coin on the drill rotates, we process the outer parts of the ring blank. Then we take fine-grained sandpaper and repeat the processing.
  6. We carry out final processing of the outer surface. To do this, take a cloth, apply an abrasive compound and polish the surface with it. To obtain a mirror shine, we repeat this treatment several times.
  7. We clamp the coin in a vice, using pads in the form of cardboard or paper to protect it from scratches and dents.
  8. We enlarge the hole in the coin using a drill or other device. This is the most difficult and painstaking stage of the work, as there is a possibility of ruining the coin. Everything must be done carefully, slowly, periodically checking the fastening of the coin.
  9. Using a power tool with a sanding roller, smooth out the inside of the ring. After this stage, the edges of the product will become quite sharp.
  10. Using a file, we pass along the edges of the product on all sides at an angle of 45 degrees until they become more rounded.
  11. Using a polishing attachment with a small amount of abrasive material, we polish the inner surface of the product, removing all remaining roughness.

Our homemade coin ring is ready.

A coin ring will look very beautiful on a woman’s fingers. If everything is done correctly, it will be difficult to distinguish it from the salon one.

How to make a fashionable coin ring with your own hands?

For this you will need:

  • vice;
  • metal platform for an anvil;
  • coin;
  • drill;
  • sandpaper;
  • grinding and polishing tools;
  • steel spoon.

Instructions for creating a coin ring:

How to make a ring from a five-ruble coin?

To do this you will need:

  • spoon;
  • drill;
  • five-ruble coin;
  • hammer;
  • compass;
  • vice;
  • drill.

Instructions for creating an accessory:

If you want to make thick jewelry, use a 5 ruble coin.

First, take something metal, for example, a hammer or just a piece of metal. Place the edge of a coin on top of it and, holding it with your fingers, hit the edge with a heavy spoon. This will take a long time, so be patient. This is the only way you can understand how to make a ring out of a coin and whether it’s worth it.

Do this work about 3 times, then turn the metal and start working again. In this case, the main thing is to knock often, but not hard, so that the surface expands gradually from impacts and is smooth.

Strong shocks contribute to the appearance of dents.

Knock until the nickel reaches the desired size. After this, start measuring the diameter with a compass to maintain accurate parameters.

It's time to drill. First, secure the nickel in a vice to avoid scratching the surface. After this, insert the ring between them so that through their opening there is access to the coin. Having fixed and held the structure well, drill the part.

Now widen the hole. To do this, without removing the magnetic ring from the clamp, you need to expand it using a drill or round file of a suitable diameter. Sand the outside first. Take a bolt and nut of the desired size and diameter, similar to the inner circumference of the jewelry. Place a thick piece of fabric over the bolt and secure with a nut.

It is important that the ring does not come into contact with the metal, otherwise it will be scratched. Clamp the bolt in the drill, turn it on and sand the ring first with fine sandpaper, then with a thick cloth. The inside can be easily polished by inserting a straight piece of shelf into a drill instead of a drill. Hold the ring with pliers and wrap it with thick cloth.

That's all, the ring is made, all you have to do is wipe it well with your hands, and the fashion accessory is ready.

We make a coin ring with our own hands using a crossbar

If you are wondering how to make a coin ring without a drill, try this option. First you need to decide what you will make the ring from. Silver is considered an excellent material. First, heat the coin until red hot so that it becomes elastic, but do not overdo it, otherwise the material will begin to deform and some of the elements will be smeared. As soon as the penny has acquired a reddish tint and turned slightly white, immediately lower it into cold water.

Don't be alarmed when you hear hissing. This is normal.

Now move on to the main work. Take a drill and make a hole so that it is level. The larger the diameter of the drill, the thinner the jewelry will be. Once you have made the hole, take a hammer and a deadbolt. Thanks to them, you will select the required coin size and give it the optimal shape.

Nowadays, when it’s difficult to surprise people with something, but you really want to, you can make a stylish ring from a coin that will amaze those around you. Especially if you choose an unusual specimen. The first way to make rings out of metal pennies was invented in America, and the man who did it was called Nicholas Hackman. They say that when Lenin married Krupskaya, they exchanged rings made of coins. Now this idea gives enterprising people good income, because such rings are sold for good money, and they are in demand.

There are two manufacturing technologies: one is simple, and the second is a little more complicated, but anyone can master it if they want, they just need more tools. Let's start with the one that is simpler.

How to make a ring from a coin

The ring can be made from absolutely any coin. If you wish, you can take silver or gold. To turn a ring into a coin we need:

  • Spoon.
  • Drill.
  • Zeal.

In the process, everyone will have additional tools that will be convenient for them to perform actions at a certain stage. If you plan to have a thick ring, then you need to take an appropriate coin, for example a nickel; in general, it should be larger in size than your finger. It is not recommended to take multi-layer pennies, at least until you have sufficient experience in manufacturing.

So let's begin. You need to take something metal, you can, for example, a hammer or another flat piece of metal, place a penny on top of it on its edge and, holding it with your fingers, hit its edge with a spoon. This will take quite a long time, so you need to be patient. This is the only way you can understand how to make a ring from a coin and whether it is worth it. It is better to take a massive spoon to make it easier to work with. You need to hit it about three times, then turn the penny and start working further on a new area.

Production nuances

In this case, the main thing is to knock often, but not very hard, so that the surface expands gradually from impacts and is smooth. If you hit it too hard, dents may appear, which will ruin the whole look. Another nuance is that you need to tap the coin evenly on all sides so that the surface is flattened evenly. It’s worth developing a rhythm and moving in it constantly.

You need to continue knocking until the penny reaches the desired size. Making a coin ring requires a good eye. When the size of the jewelry becomes visually close to the desired one, you need to start measuring the diameter with a caliper in order to maintain the exact parameters.

Drilling a coin ring

To drill a coin, it must be fixed. This can be done in a vice, having previously placed wooden blocks so as not to scratch the surface. If you don’t have a vice, you can take two pieces of board and drill a hole in them a millimeter or two smaller than the size of a penny. Connect two bars and make small holes in the corners for self-tapping screws. After this, we insert a ring between the boards so that the coin can be accessed through the drilled hole. We securely fix it and, holding this massive structure well, we drill out the money. When making a ring out of a coin, it is better to center it before drilling so that the drill does not jump off and scratch the surface.

Expanding the hole in the ring

Without removing the coin ring from the clamp, you need to widen the hole in it. To do this, you can use a large drill or round file of a suitable diameter and insert it into the drill. In a word, if there is no special tool, then you just need to improvise.

Sanding the outer part

Now we already know exactly how to make a ring from a coin, and all that remains is to polish it to a mirror shine. To do this, you need to take a bolt and nut of a size very close to the diameter of the inner circumference of the decoration. We put it on the bolt, placing a piece of fabric, and then fix it with a nut. It is very important that the ring does not come into contact with the metal and does not get scratched. We clamp the bolt into the drill, turn it on and sand the ring, first on the finest sandpaper, and then on felt or thick fabric. This way the appearance of the ring will become dazzlingly perfect.

The inside can be easily sanded by inserting a straight piece of stick into the drill instead of a drill. You can hold the ring with pliers, having previously wrapped them with thick fabric in several layers. That's all - the ring is made from a coin with your own hands, now it needs to be polished by hand, and the fashion accessory is ready.

Ring with external coin design

To turn the design of the ring outward, you need to take a slightly different approach. This method is more complicated, but the result is many times more interesting.

The manufacturing scheme differs radically from the first option. You need to immediately drill a hole in the coin of such a size that the rim matches the thickness of the ring. After this, it will need to be expanded using a metal cone. It is firmly installed, a coin is put on top, on which we place a plastic tube and hit it with light movements from above. The coin gradually decreases, expanding at the same time. When performing these actions, you need to feel the metal and monitor the product to prevent the ring from breaking. After the coin has dropped a little, it must be removed and heated. This can be done in a fireplace or using a gas cutter.

After the penny heats up, you need to continue the same actions as before, only with a hot product. We do everything gradually, each time removing and heating the future ring. When the large circle, which is located closer to the bottom of the cone, becomes the required diameter, the product is turned over and also put on the cone while hot. Work continues until both circles are the same diameter. Here's how to use a coin to make a ring with a design on the outside. After this, you need to polish the ring, as described in the first method.

When sanding, it is not necessary to completely remove all carbon deposits. When combined with shine and carbon deposits, the metal looks very impressive, and the coin pattern gives the ring a special charm. Such a stylish accessory will definitely be noticed by everyone around you.

Do you want to give your girlfriend a gift, but don’t have enough money? It's okay, because you can make a very beautiful decoration from an ordinary coin using the simplest tools that everyone has at home - a drill and a tablespoon. True, the process is lengthy; it is advisable to choose a coin from a softer alloy.

It is better not to take coins containing nickel and copper, because they can cause allergies. Silver is best.

There are different instructions on the Internet. There are several ways, the simplest is to tap on the edge (edge of the coin), gradually turning it.

Usually a hammer is used for such forging, but American craftsman Shane Walton says that it turns out more accurately if instead of a hammer you hit the edge... with a tablespoon: he published step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

Manufacturing time: from 6 to 50 hours.

The first step is to drill a small hole in the center of the coin and insert a wedge there, with which we will hold the coin during forging.

Then we tap the entire edge with a spoon for several hours, turning the coin. The duration of the procedure depends on the softness of the metal. The ring gradually becomes thicker and smaller in diameter. We continue to forge until it reaches the desired size.

At this stage it is convenient to sand the outside of the ring by placing it on the drill bit. We use sandpaper, rotating the ring on the drill.

After this, all that remains is to remove the material from the center of the coin in any possible way: using a drill, grinder, file or other tools.

All the tools used in the process were photographed by Shane Walton. The ax blade was used as a kneeling support during the forging process. To polish the product, he took a woman's nail file.

Some steps and little tricks in the manufacturing process are shown in from another craftsman who tried to film the process.

Well, for more professional products that preserve the design of the original coin, you will have to use more technically sophisticated way.

A ring made by yourself looks no worse than a piece of jewelry from a jewelry store, and for a girl such a gift will be even nicer, considering how much time you spent on it.

In an age when a lot is available and choosing an interesting, mesmerizing gift can be quite difficult, a coin ring becomes that original present that you want to give to a loved one or even to yourself. For the first time, such rings began to be made in the USA, and subsequently this method of making unusual jewelry spread throughout the world. Today, such products are sold at high prices and are very popular.

Experts in this field note that you can easily make a coin ring yourself if you have the necessary working tools in your arsenal. However, at first glance, the instructions for making jewelry are confusing and make you feel insecure.

You should also choose the right coin for making jewelry. Experienced jewelers note that pennies minted from silver, brass, steel or bronze are suitable. They must also be of the required diameter so that the ring does not turn out to be too small.

Important! Parts that contain copper and nickel are completely unsuitable for the production of such jewelry. A product made from such an alloy can cause allergic reactions on the skin and provoke poisoning.

When selecting material, you should pay attention to the safety of the material from which the coin is made, its color, size and strength. Once you are convinced of the quality and safety, you can begin producing finger jewelry.

What does it take to make a coin ring with your own hands?

Any man who has a large supply of tools in his arsenal and a little patience can learn to make such an original gift on his own. Surely in the garage of almost every representative of the stronger sex you can find all the tools necessary for production:

  • cutting out disks (you can use a drill, but the result will not be as ideal);
  • crossbar (some use a regular piece of reinforced pipe);
  • vice (it is quite possible to do without them, but they make the process more convenient);
  • regular hammer;
  • a hammer with a plastic tip (to preserve the design on the coin);
  • calipers;
  • file;
  • fine-grained sandpaper;
  • polishing;
  • burner.

The first attempts to work with unfamiliar material may be unsuccessful. You need to be prepared for this and not lose patience. The ring will definitely work for those who strive to achieve the desired result.

How to make a coin ring: instructions

First you need to make a hole in the center of the coin. To do this, visually measure the center of the copper, and using a punch, cut out a hole with a diameter of about 15 mm. You can use a drill for these purposes, but the result will be much worse. Using a drill deforms the coin, creating unsightly and difficult to remove burrs.

Important! To facilitate the production process, you can heat the product on a gas burner. However, you first need to determine the material from which the money is made. You can check this using a magnet. If the coin is attracted, it is made of a steel alloy; if not, it is made of non-ferrous metals.

  • for steel (it must be gradually heated and also carefully cooled, gradually removing it from the fire);
  • for non-ferrous metals (alloys can be heated on a gas burner to a red-orange hue, and then sharply lowered into cold water).

During further work, steel products can be periodically heated with a gas burner. This will make the work much easier.

The resulting workpiece is put on a cone-shaped crossbar and, carefully tapping with a plastic hammer, it is passed further along the tube. In this case, the edges of the coin gradually bend, taking on the rough outlines of the future ring.

Having adjusted the ring to the diameter of the desired size, using a plastic pipe and a regular hammer, the outlines of the ring are formed, which will be further processed and polished. Some sources recommend turning the ring over on the bolt to immediately give it the desired shape.

Next, the resulting ring needs to be polished and excess stiffeners removed. To do this, use fine-grained sandpaper and a drill with a coarse-grained sandpaper attachment. The edge of the coin is smoothed and made thinner, all protruding parts and inconvenient points are polished so that the ring fits well and is comfortable.

Then all that remains is to finally polish the resulting decoration. For this you can use, for example, Goye paste. In the end, the ring will acquire the correct shape and a beautiful shade, and the chasing, carefully preserved, makes the jewelry original and attractive.

There is another way to make a ring from a coin. It will require a minimum set of tools:

  • tablespoon;
  • drill.

This production option is labor intensive, so a man will have to be patient and diligent. During the production process, additional means may appear that will make it more convenient for the master to achieve the result.

Important! You need to choose the right size coin so that it is larger than the finger on which you plan to wear the headband in the future. You should not take multi-layer coins at the first stages; the process of processing them is quite complicated.

Place the coin edge-on on a hard surface. Holding it with your fingers, we begin to tap the spoon three times. Then the “blank” is turned and tapped again. For work, it is better to give preference to a massive spoon to make it easier to work with.

Important! You need to hit the coin quite often, but not too hard. The main thing is that the metal surface expands gradually. The tapping should be uniform so that unsightly dents do not appear.

Once the source begins to approach the desired dimensions, you need to start measuring it with a caliper and continue working until the ring takes a rough final shape.

Using a drill, drill a hole in the middle of the future ring. Then we expand it using a round file to the desired diameter. Next, all that remains is to polish the ring to a perfect shine. First, fine-grained sandpaper is used, and then dense felt fabric.

The decoration turns out shiny and beautiful. It looks like it came off the tool of a famous jewelry maker and is made of precious metal. Armed with a simple and accessible tool, any man can independently make a ring from a coin and please his loved one or close friends with such a gift.
