Roulette Spin

Purchased reception. In the air, after two hits, pause and hit again (2 times LMB, pause, LMB). Dante, with a twisting movement of his sword, will lift the enemy and himself up, and the target at the end of the move will slightly exceed the character in height.

Drive/Overdrive

Acquired techniques. Moreover Overdrive requires Level 1 Drive.

Drive is a very useful long-range attack aimed at multiple targets standing in the same line. Hold and release LMB, so that Dante charges his sword and releases a wave of energy at his enemies, passes right through most enemies. You can attack right away, or wait charging Drive to full power- lasts a couple of seconds, plus there will be a sound and animation prompt. You can keep Drive for as long as you like, hurry up slowly.

Overdrive is an improved version of Drive, adding two shock waves to the reception. All you need is press LMB exactly after performing the Drive.

Both techniques have two levels of development. The second level improves damage.

Stinger/Trillion Stubs

Acquired techniques, and A trillion hits requires a Level 1 Sting.

Sting is an attack designed to get close to an opponent on the ground. Double-click on the movement key and LMB - Dante will make a sharp jerk and hit the enemy with a pointed piercing blow. In most cases the demon will be thrown forward.

Trillion Strikes is an improved version of the Sting. Perform Sting, but before Dante gets close to the enemy, Press LMB quickly and several times. The enemy will receive quick piercing blows, plus at the end he will grab the final piercing blow with knockback. It's especially great to use this technique to drive several enemies into the ground.

Both techniques have two levels of development. Second level of Stingincreases distance overcome by Dante, second level of Trillion Strikes allows strike longer.

  • Given in mission 2
  • Slow but powerful strikes, above average style point gain
  • The techniques are aimed at close combat and, partly, at long range - infusing damage on large targets, knocking the enemy down, juggling
  • Good for repelling attacks and juggling enemies

Character history

Events of Devil May Cry 3

An unknown man named Arkham comes to Dante. He gives Dante an “invitation” from Virgil, Dante’s brother, in the form of an attack by ordinary demons. At this time, a tower emerges from the ground - Temen-ni-gru, on top of which stands Virgil, and Dante considers this a challenge. Dante goes to the top of the tower and kills many different demons along the way, and from the souls of the strongest creatures he receives weapons imbued with their power. Together with him, Lady arrived in the tower - a demon hunter and the daughter of Arkham, who wants to take revenge on her father for the murder of her mother. Arkham works with Vergil to open the gate to the demon world using a tower that acts as a conduit between the two worlds, but this requires two amulets given to the two brothers by their mother. After several skirmishes with a creature calling itself the Jester, Dante climbs to the top of the tower and meets his brother in a duel. Virgil defeats his brother, takes his amulet and leaves. The power of the devil awakens in Dante, and he goes in pursuit. Virgil tries to activate the tower, but he fails and then Dante arrives. They fight again and cut each other, spraying blood everywhere. The Lady intervenes in their fight, and then the mysterious Jester arrives. The Jester reveals his true colors - he is actually Arkham, who has been manipulating them all this whole time to activate the tower for his own purposes. He plans to take the Edge of Power, Sparda's sword, which retains some of the great demon's power, and use it to rule the demon-infested Earth. Dante is again forced to climb to the top of the tower from the very bottom. The lady wants to take personal revenge on her father and therefore tries to stop Dante, but she cannot do anything to him and decides to give him her most powerful weapon - the Kalina Ann grenade launcher. Having reached the top of the tower, Dante passes into the world of demons. Having found Arkham, who has reincarnated as Sparda, he is about to engage him in battle, but Arkham’s body cannot withstand the full power of the demon and transforms into a spherical creature and attacks Dante. During the fight, Virgil joins the fight on his brother's side. Together, the brothers defeat Arkham and send him back to Earth, where he is killed by Lady. At this time, in the world of demons, the brothers again fight for the Edge of Power and parts of the amulet. Virgil is defeated and decides to remain in the demon world, he falls down into the darkness with his piece of the amulet. Dante tries to hold him back, but Virgil, with a swing of his katana, cuts his glove and wounds him in the hand. Dante returns to the human world and leaves Temen-ni-gru, where he meets the Lady. They form a partnership to hunt demons and Dante finally chooses a name for his enterprise - "Devil May Cry". The epilogue scene shows Virgil in the demon world, who, weakened after losing a battle with his brother, enters into a fight with Mundus, his father's old enemy.

Events of Devil May Cry 1

Once upon a time, the dark lord Mundus decided to take over the Human World. However, then he was stopped by Sparda - his right hand, one of the leaders of the army of demons. He imprisoned Mundus in the Demon World, thereby protecting people. Since then he has been known as the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda. The game takes place in a fictional world (time not specified). The main character of the game is Dante: half human, half demon, son of Sparda, owner of his own agency specializing in the extermination of demons. The events of the game begin with the fact that a certain woman calling herself Trish bursts into his office. She tells Dante that Mundus, whom Sparda once defeated, was able to get out of captivity and is on Mallet Island. Dante and Trish go to the island. And only Dante began examining the castle when he was attacked by demons sent by Mundus. A little further he encountered the Phantom, a giant spider, one of Mundus’s generals, as well as the Griffin, a giant demonic bird, one of Mundus’s confidants. Dante defeats the demons and moves on. After wandering around the castle, Dante again faces a serious opponent. This time it is a certain Nelo Angelo - a demon knight who does not behave like most demons. However, when he sees Dante's amulet, he retreats. Before setting off on the ship deeper into the island, Dante fights Nelo Angelo again. This time the demon is defeated. Dante is transported by ship, where he is again attacked by the Griffin. Dante kills the demon, and this time for good. After another series of wanderings, Dante encounters Nelo Angelo for the last time. Now that the enemy is finally defeated, Dante learns the truth - it was Virgil, his twin brother, who was enslaved by Mundus. Dante takes his piece of the amulet. Having merged into one, the amulets transform Dante's sword into a more formidable weapon. At the same time, Mundus orders Trish to kill Dante. Dante continues his campaign against Mundus. He moves even further, meeting more and more powerful demons. He eventually encounters Mundus' bio-weapon. Of course, Dante manages to destroy him, but he is immediately stabbed in the back by Trish. She reveals her plans to Dante. Be that as it may, this does not stop Dante from rescuing her from the fallen cave support. However, he immediately threatens her that he will kill her if she catches his eye again. Having gone to the end, Dante finds himself in the main hall, where Mundus is located. He took Trish as a "hostage" to make sure he killed Dante. However, just before the final blow, Trish saves Dante at the cost of his life. Mundus transforms into his active form. A decisive battle takes place between Dante and Mundus. The latter is defeated. Dante returns to Trish, but she still hasn't come to her senses. He has no choice but to flee from the castle, which has begun to collapse. However, almost getting out of the castle, Dante falls into a ruin. Inside, he fights the surviving Mundus. Almost at the end of the battle, a living Trish appears, who transfers his power to Dante. With her help, Dante finally defeats Mundus. The castle is almost destroyed. Dante and Trish use a plane from the hangar to escape. Returning back, Trish becomes Dante's partner.

Events of Devil May Cry 2

This time, the demon hunter, on another call, ended up on the island of Dumari. Having met the customer - a red-haired warrior named Lucia - and her mother Mathieu, Dante learned that these people are members of the Vi De Marly clan, which from time immemorial has been protecting their native island and its inhabitants from demonic hordes. The reason for the call was the head of the international corporation Ouroboros, Arius, who was trying to gain the power of the ancient demon Argosax. And for this he needed Arcana - ancient artifacts with which the legendary Sparda sealed this monster. To make the search easier, the villain used his magic to summon demons who drove out the local population. If successful, Dante will hear from Mathieu a story about his father, who once fought alongside the Vi De Marly clan. Having agreed, the hero set off to complete the task. And Lucia began to look for the Arcana. The heroine has come a long way. And finally, she met her main enemy - Arius. The villain told (and proved!) her that the girl was his creation, a demon named Chi (Kai), accidentally lost and raised by a member of the Vi De Marly clan, Mathieu. Lucia drew her swords, but the dark magician transported her to another place with his spell. From there, Lucia entered the sanctuary with the last Arcana - an ancient cup. Let's return to Dante. Having found a motorcycle in an abandoned warehouse, he quickly rushed to Arius. But, having been delayed in the battle with Nefasturis - a huge demon destroying the city with his lasers - he found the villain a little later than Lucia. Arius avoided the battle by summoning another demon and flying away in his personal helicopter. Dante playfully killed him and moved on. Soon he found Lucia. She asked to give the Arcana to Mathieu, and she herself went to kill Arius. And this time she didn’t succeed. The beauty found herself in the clutches of a monster. And our demon hunter found Mathieu. Realizing that her daughter was in captivity, the grandmother asked the “son of Sparda” to take all the Arcana and save Lucia. And Dante hurried to the residence of the head of Ouroboros. Having made the exchange in cold blood, he saved the girl and, together with her in demonic form, flew out of the building, fleeing a magical explosion caused by a vile sorcerer. Having landed, the hero left the warrior and went to finish the task. And Mathieu approached Lucia and said that she still considered the girl his daughter, because blood ties were nothing compared to what they had experienced together. Then the girl, filled with faith, went after Dante. Soon the eclipse came and Arius began to perform the ritual. All four Arcana (Arcana Medal - a small coin; Arcana Baston - Mathieu's staff; Arcana Hell - an ancient dagger; Arcana Kalis - cup) are connected by a magical chain. But something is wrong...Arcana Medalica, although it is in connection with other artifacts, does not emit energy! The villain is terrified! And then Dante appeared, throwing a real artifact into the air, and explained to Arius that he had given him his personal coin (with the image of Trish). And then he gave the would-be owner of the power of Argosax a bullet in the forehead. After getting out of the building, Dante found Lucia. And suddenly the gates to hell opened next to them (although the ritual was not completed!). Dante walked towards the portal. But Lucia said that she is a demon, so her life means nothing, and it is she who must meet with Argosax. The hero tossed his coin. The head fell, and he went to hell, giving the girl the object of resolving the dispute. Immediately after he left,... Arius appeared in front of Lucia! But now he is not a man, but a weak demon. The warrior drew her blades from their sheaths and destroyed the reptile! Taking a breath, the girl remembered the coin. Taking a closer look, she noticed that there were eagles on both sides. What a cunning Dante is! But what happened to our hero? He found himself in hell in front of an incredible demon, consisting of the bodies of those previously defeated by the enemy hero (Argosaxx subjugated them; the name of the “miracle” is Argosaxx-chaos). Having easily killed the monster, he was forced to fight Argosax himself, who literally hatched from the remains of demonic meat. And this time the hero won, spectacularly shooting the devil with a magically charged pistol. All villains are defeated! All that remains is to get out of hell... But the prudent Dante took with him a motorcycle, on which he apparently rode to the nearest portal to the human world, and from there to his office, where Lucia ran out to meet him. End!

Quite a few people who played this game said they were very disappointed. But I'll tell you this: Devil May Cry 2 undoubtedly has some shortcomings, but its advantages are undeniable. The developers managed to create such a special atmosphere that is not found in any of the Devil May Cry parts. What is Dante alone worth? So don't listen to anyone and play this game!

Events of Devil May Cry 4

The game takes place in the city of Fortune, which is led by the Order of the Sword, which worships the Dark Knight Sparda and protects the city from demons. The events of the game begin with Dante breaking into the temple during morning prayer, who kills His Holiness, the leader of the Order, as well as most of the knights. A new hero, Nero, manages to stop the killer. After the attack, a massive demon attack on the city begins. While the other knights try to confront them, Nero follows Dante's tracks to kill him. He heads to the snowy mountains, to the Order's castle, inside which he finds a secret laboratory. Meanwhile, Sanctus, His Holiness, “awakens”, gaining new powers after his resurrection. In the laboratory, Nero encounters Agnus, an underground scientist of the Order. At first, Agnus' creations manage to defeat Nero. However, a demon awakens inside the hero, which allows him not only to survive, but also to discover new abilities thanks to the Yamato sword. From the castle Nero goes to the forests of Fortuna. At this time, Sanctus holds a meeting. Hearing what Agnus said, Sanctus tells Credo to find Nero and bring him to him. Meanwhile, Nero crosses the forest and heads towards the main building of the Order. On the way to the palace, Nero runs into Credo. To Nero's questions about what is really going on, Credo "answers" with an aggressive attack. Seeing Nero's power, Credo takes on his demonic form, but this does not save him and he suffers a crushing defeat. Suddenly, Kyrie appears and sees Nero beating Credo and notices Nero's demonic hand. In addition to this, she is taken hostage by Agnus in order to manipulate Nero. Nero runs after them, but Agnus' creations carry Kyrie out of the palace. Nero continues on his way, going deeper into the palace. In Sanctus' chambers, he again encounters Dante, who needs Yamato's sword. Nero fights him, but loses. Despite this, Dante allows Nero to take the sword. After this, the hero finds himself at the statue of the Savior, on top of which there is Sanctus holding Kyrie. Nero attacks Sanctus and nearly overpowers him, but he uses the Savior to defeat Nero and imprison him inside the deity statue. Credo tries to rescue Nero, but is hit in the chest by Yamato. The Savior absorbs Nero and his energy. Yamato receives the Order, with the help of which he finally manages to release and subdue the demonic hordes. While Nero is in captivity, Dante steps in. Since the Savior is in the city itself, the son of Sparda has to make the way back: from the main palace, through the forest and snow-capped mountains, to Fortuna. At the same time, Dante destroys all the bosses that Nero only drove back into the underworld, while destroying the gates from which they appear. The last thing he does is take back Yamato and destroy the last gate. Now his goal is the Savior. Dante engages him in battle. He manages to weaken it and send Yamato straight inside the creature to free Nero. The latter is freed and goes after Sanctus. While Dante fights the Savior, Nero must overcome a cunning system within the creature to reach the Sanctus. Using Yamato, Nero defeats His Holiness and frees Kirie. Despite this, Sanctus merges with Savior to try to kill Nero. To finally destroy Sanctus, Nero uses the full power of his demonic arm. After this, Dante leaves, leaving Nero with the Yamato sword. After the final credits, there follows a small humorous scene, from which we see that Dante’s “efforts” did not pay off (his share of the proceeds turned out to be extremely meager). Meanwhile, the office receives a call with a new order.

Concept

Dante made his debut in the video game Devil May Cry, which was originally a sequel to the Resident Evil series. Dante was a very strong character who fought monsters in a Gothic castle. This idea was later rejected, and Leon Kennedy returned instead of Dante. The creator of the series, Hideki Kamiya, said that Dante was based on the main character of the manga Cobra. Dante's long red cloak was meant to demonstrate his showiness, and his refusal to drink and smoke, according to Hideki, symbolized "coolness."

Characteristic

Dante is half-demon, half-human, the son of Sparda and an earthly woman. Being a half-breed, Dante has the ability to be in both the normal world and the world of demons. He has developed muscles, long, silver-white hair with bangs, blue eyes, and usually wears a red leather cloak. Dante's arsenal includes firearms and bladed weapons, including the two constant pistols "Ebony" and "Ivory", as well as the swords "Rebellion" and "Force Edge". He has superhuman strength inherited from his father, which gives him the ability to temporarily turn into a demon. In this state, Dante possesses enormous strength, high speed and agility. Dante remains confident when facing any opponents, regardless of their size and strength, and often allows himself to taunt them before the fight begins. Dante is very calm and serene all the time. He is in debt all the time and is unable to pay it off. His favorite foods are pizza and strawberry ice cream, but he doesn't like pizza with olives. Dante has a twin brother - Virgil. Both brothers were raised by their mother named Eva, an ordinary person. While Sparda was away, the family was attacked by demons of Mundus, during which Eve died. This event influenced Dante's choice of main occupation, who chose the path of a demon hunter. Later, Dante often clashed with his brother Virgil in fierce battles. The reason for this was Virgil’s choice of a different path in life - he wanted more power, seeking for this any knowledge about his father and his sword Edge of Power (Dante, unlike Virgil, was quite content with the fact that he was half-human, half-demon). During the events of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, the brothers separated for a long time - Virgil was defeated in another battle with Dante (the battle took place in the world of demons) and jumped into the abyss. The main character tried to prevent his brother from falling and pulled his hand towards him to catch, but in response to this, Virgil injures Dante with a swing of his sword (cutting the glove so that Dante does not have time to catch him). At the end of the plot, Virgil, like his father earlier, becomes a prisoner in the world of demons, where he meets and fights with the Prince "Darkness Mundus. Having got out of the Demon World, Dante shed tears. This proves that his brother was dear to him, in whose memory only a torn glove remained...

In this article, we will look at the history of the creation of the popular slasher series Devil May Cry and understand the plot

In 1999, according to Capcom's plan, development of a new numbered part was to begin. The producer of the project, Shinji Mikami, invites Hideki Kamiya to become a director. Kamiya already had experience working on the first two parts. A talented Japanese decides that the project needs fresh ideas.

During development, Kamiya and all Capcom employees realized that they had moved too far away from the Resident Evil canons, and it was decided that the project should become independent. After changing the concept, the game received the name. Thus, Devil May Cry and Resident Evil have much more common ground than it might seem at first glance.

The main idea was to make an action movie. Not a psychological thriller, not a horror, but an exciting action movie. Therefore, the project manager decided to make the locations three-dimensional and the camera dynamic so that it would be focused on the main character. Kamiya "borrowed" some key gameplay elements from another game being developed at Capcom. We are talking about .

During a test run of Warlords, Kamiya discovered a bug - enemies did not fall to the ground if they were thrown into the air with one hit and they could continue to be hit. The director of DMC liked this moment so much that he decided to make it part of the combat system of his game. In the future, the bug will be called “juggle” (from the English word “juggle”). You may have heard of this popular move from the world of fighting games.

The backstory of the entire series is as follows: the demon Sparda turned against the lord of the underworld, Mundus, when he fell in love with an earthly girl. Having sealed the world of demons with the help of an amulet and his sword, he divided the amulet into two parts, which later went to his sons - Dante and Virgil. Whoever connects the amulet together will receive the power of Sparda. Actually, this is the main plot of the entire series.

Devil May Cry

Dante is the main character of Devil May Cry. One fine day, a mysterious girl, Trish, comes to him with the obvious intention of killing. Dante, naturally, turns out to be too tough for her. The girl runs away in a hurry, but reports that Mundus has returned and is on a remote island. The protagonist goes to the island and discovers demons and Mundus' henchmen. There he meets Virgil in the demonic form of Nelo Angelo, enslaved by the villain, and receives his part of the amulet. Trish turns out to be a servant of the ruler of the underworld, but because of Dante, she decides to turn away from Mundus. Together they defeat the villain. What happened to Verligius after the defeat is one of the main mysteries that has haunted the minds of fans for a long time.

The first part of Devil May Cry was rated extremely positively, mainly due to its stylish and dynamic gameplay. Some still consider it the best in the entire series, especially in terms of location design.

Devil May Cry 2

Received low ratings from players and critics. This was largely due to Capcom's business strategy. Kamiya was not involved in the game. The development process was extremely difficult. According to official information, the director was Hideaki Itsuno, who had never done such things before. Itsuno began working on the project when there were 4 months left before the release and it is still unknown who was the game designer of DMC 2 during the main development period.

The plot of the second part is interesting because in the finale Dante went to conquer hell. Long before this, the hero meets a girl named Lucia, who asks to help her defeat a businessman named Arius. The villain wants to conquer the world with the help of demonic power. However, Lucia herself turns out to be an artificial creature created by Arius. After defeating him, the girl asks Dante to kill her, but they are interrupted by the suddenly opened gate to hell. Dante decides to close them from the inside. As a result, he is forced to stay there until he finds his way back.

In the final scene we see Lucia waiting for the hero to return. Hearing the roar of the engine, the girl runs out into the street expecting to meet Dante. But the player will never be shown who has arrived.

In DMC 2, players criticized almost everything. There is no Virgil, no one remembers the female secondary character anymore. The villain is boring, Dante is too gloomy, the combat system is oversaturated with absolutely unnecessary fluff. The only positive thing that was noted was the increased scale of the action. But this turned out to be not enough.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening

- one of the most successful parts of the series. She was already completely entrusted to Hideaki Itsuno. He decided to return to the roots, forget about the second part and improve everything that was in the first. The difficulty was increased, and the combat system was brought to mind. But most often the game is remembered for its crazy staging of plot scenes in which Dante, to the accompaniment of demonic rock, rides on enemies as if on a skateboard and runs over them with a motorcycle.

Plot-wise, DMC 3 is a prequel to the entire series. Brother Dante sought to master his father's power and open a portal to the world of demons with the help of the ancient tower of Temen-ni-gru. For this purpose, he teamed up with a certain Arkham, who told Dante about Virgil’s plans. By manipulating the brothers, Arkham wanted to gain the power of their father, the demon Sparda.

In addition to the video game series, there is an anime series of the same name. The action takes place between the first and fourth parts and tells about the everyday work of the Devil May Cry agency.

During the passage, Dante meets Lady, the daughter of Arkham, who seeks to wipe her father off the face of the earth for killing her mother. And later Virgil himself realizes that he was just a puppet and also joins the hero.

Dante and Vergil manage to defeat Arkham, who was unable to control Sparda's power. After defeating a common enemy, the brothers fight each other, and Dante turns out to be stronger. Virgil decides to stay in hell and ends up in the very depths. Weakened after the fight with Dante, but retaining his part of the amulet, he encounters Mundus in hell. As we know from the first part, Virgil failed to cope with the ruler of hell and ended up enslaved.

Dante and Lady open an office called Devil May Cry.

Dante's Awakening is an icon of the genre. It had everything that people love about slashers. A whirlwind combat system, enchanting bosses, a combination of melee and ranged weapons and an original soundtrack, later released separately. Starting from scratch, Itsuno did everything right.

Devil May Cry 4

The plot takes place after the events of the very first part. Trish and Lady, together with Dante, run a business and kill demons on order. The main character of this part, a certain Nero, is a student of the Order of the Sword, which consists of knights who worship Sparda and use the power of angels to fight demons. But in reality it turns out that their power is of demonic origin.

Realizing how far this can go, Dante, Trish and Lady try to put an end to the order. It all begins with the opening scene in which Dante breaks into the order's sanctum sanctorum and kills its leader Sanctus. After which the player, controlling Nero, will have to fight the main character of all previous parts. Great move by the writers. Dante escapes, and the new protagonist begins the pursuit.

As the story progresses, Nero comes to realize what is happening. And he himself understands how dangerous the order’s flirtations with demonic forces were and teams up with Dante. He later receives Vergil's sword called Yamato, which allows him to open the gates to Hell. The heroes manage to defeat Sanctus, who survived Dante's attack and merged with a huge statue of Sparda.

The game doesn't directly say that Nero is the son of Vergil and the grandson of Sparda. Also in the fourth part, a new female character is introduced - Kyrie. She is the opera singer of the Order and Nero's love interest.

The re-release for PS4 and Xbox One has a separate campaign for Vergil. The time frame is before the events of DMC 3. Players noticed that Virgil's demonic form - Nelo Angelo - is a direct reference to the protagonist of the fourth part. When translated from Japanese, the letters “R” and “L” are interchangeable, so we can assume that we were immediately dealing with Nero Angelo, which translates from Italian as “black angel”. And it’s Italian for a reason - DMC has become the most frivolous adaptation of Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy.

DMC 4 was received warmly, but without much enthusiasm. Nero, the new protagonist, turned out to be very good from a gameplay point of view, but fans wanted more episodes for Dante. Capcom promised to devote exactly half of the game to his adventures, but in reality gamers received only a third. As a result, sales were low, and Devil May Cry had to be forgotten for a while.

DmC Devil May Cry

In 2013, Capcom rebooted the series with the release of . The project was developed by Ninja Theory ( and ). The announcement of the game caused a lot of discontent due to Dante's updated appearance. This was not an ash-haired, unrestrainedly cool hero, but a brunette and a teenager who had just discovered his strength.

Mundus again became the main villain, but in DmC he, under the guise of an ordinary person, tried to gain complete control over the city of Limbo City. Dante, like Virgil, is a half-demon, half-angel in human form, the so-called Nephilim. As conceived by Ninja Theory, the heroes, unlike the Capcom canon, fight against demons together and generally have similar views.

But after their joint victory over Mundus, Virgil himself wanted to rule humanity. Dante, naturally, turned out to be stronger. Only at the very end did Ninja Theory hint that a demonic entity could awaken in the main character.

The game received positive reviews. The British studio knows how to make slashers, and DmC was no exception. The game had its own style, interesting bosses. However, sales were not as high as Capcom had hoped, and we will most likely never see the continuation of this story.

Devil May Cry 5

The development is carried out by Hideaki Itsuno. Let's look at what we saw in the E3 2018 trailer.

The game takes place several years after the end of the fourth part. The debut trailer shows Nero working for his own demon-slaying agency. With the canonical name Devil May Cry. The hero does not have a demonic hand, nor does he have the Yamato sword. All attention is focused on the third playable character, who is the one who deprived Nero of his right hand.

The new character's name is V, and his main feature is the summoning of henchmen demons. Hideaki Itsuno has already hinted that a clue to V's identity is in the video for the track Devil Trigger, which is heard in the DMC 5 trailer.

Fans have already found images of a woman and her child, as well as a barely visible inscription “I have no name.” This is exactly what the Lady answered when Dante asked her name in the third part. All this suggests that V is somehow connected to the Lady. Perhaps he is her son. But the letter V directly hints that Virgil is also related to this mysterious character.

The main theme in the lyrics of Devil Trigger is the desire of a demon to get rid of his body. Let's make the main assumption: Vergil is in the body of the Lady's son and deprived Nero of his hand in order to return his sword. Yes, he crippled his son, but Virgil was never distinguished by the desire to take care of others.

Capcom decided to introduce the son of Sparda to modern consoles and bring the first two parts to PC. Did it turn out decently or was it a complete failure? Let's find out!

Over its rich seventeen-year history, the series Devil May Cry managed to grow out of the too bold continuation Resident Evil 2 into an independent game line, gain cult status, win a demonically huge army of fans, disappoint them a couple of times and get a remaster with improved graphics for the previous generation of consoles.

And so Capcom- with the best intentions, of course, - I decided to introduce Sparda’s son to modern consoles and bring the first two parts to the PC. Dante's fans are happy, the publisher is preparing bags for the next batch of bills, and somewhere they are already sharing gossip about the new part of DMC.

What could go wrong?

Eh, once, yes again, and many, many times more...

Last year turned out to be rich in all kinds of re-releases and porting of games. Burning with demonic blood Doom and snowy Skyrim showed what the Nintendo Switch is capable of. Double Fine rolled out Full Throttle with additional content and the ability to return the picture at any time as in 1995. And my favorite Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy… You can read more about the recent best reissues in our 2017 results.

As practice has shown, a remaster of an excellent game, and even more so from a series that is significant for the industry, can well count on success. It doesn't even require additional in-game content. It is enough to update the graphics and bring the picture up to modern standards.

Grateful fans will again be happy to relive the adventures of their favorite heroes, explore well-known universes, and in the end, they will simply thank the developers once again with hard cash, and let the game warm their souls while lying on the shelf on Steam.

Devil May Cry HD Collection was no exception. Well, just think - a thousand rubles for games from the last decade. But there are three of them! On consoles the price is generally twice as high, it’s a shame to complain...

Unhappy child

But alarming news was not long in coming. A week before the release, the first part of the collection (not the Steam version) was received for free by Twitch Prime subscribers and reported numerous problems. Moreover, the distribution was planned to begin on February 27, but was postponed due to technical difficulties. Coincidence? Yes, sure…

In the end, it turned out that instead of a full HD re-release, the developers from Capcom simply ported a remaster of the same games for Xbox 360 and PS3, stretched the picture to 1080p and increased the frame rate to sixty. At the same time, some of the textures were left from the last re-release - six years ago, by the way!

Of course, some walls, building models, and surfaces look good: without angular transitions or blurry patterns. But the unupdated textures and models that burst onto the screen straight from the early 2000s look even more sloppy against their background.

And the increased FPS got out of control, as if they themselves were under the influence of otherworldly forces. Above 60, the game speed increases in direct proportion to the increase in frames. The more powerful the hardware, the faster the game. And believe me, in a slasher film, where smooth movement, reaction speed and animation timing play a major role in the gameplay, speeding up the game ruins the whole process. Because of this, the entire impression of the game is spoiled.

For other “lucky ones” the situation is the opposite: the action slows down greatly, especially in battle. The frame issue can be fixed by turning on Vsync, but there is no such option in the build menu. The three games have a common launcher, but in it you can only adjust the resolution, window display mode and language. The videos on the game engine and the menu were not touched at all. They look unsightly, and even go in the old 4:3 format. Do I need to clarify that this very “launcher” is just a launch menu, a separate window from which you can open other windows with the games themselves? Some problems can be solved using the NVIDIA Control Panel and other similar applications - but only some.

But that's not all! The quality of the game itself has not only remained the same, it has worsened! The textures of the blood are overgrown with pixels, losing some of the resolution. When shots are fired disappeared some of the effects. The image and subtitles in cutscenes no longer match the sound. The sound in general suffered greatly - looping sound effects were applied sloppily, and the overall frequency dropped.

Management is also not so simple. The game does not recognize some controllers. And if you were going to play any game from this set without a gamepad (although I personally wouldn’t wish that on my enemy), you can relax - the controls are not designed for the keyboard, all the button icons are straight from the Xbox controller.

For the sake of objectivity, I’ll note that the last attempt to make friends between the third part of the series and personal computers went even worse. Maximum resolution 1024x768, crashes and other joys in Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition did not pass by the players unnoticed. There is something to compare with.

And not everyone encounters technical problems in the new collection. On Steam, the number of negative reviews complaining about a crooked port makes up approximately 25% of all ratings. And I would not focus on this if I had not personally encountered problems. In the end, I managed to fix most of the problems and bring the collection to a playable state.

Of course, all the disadvantages relate to the quality of the re-release, and perhaps the publisher will soon fix the problems with a patch. There are no complaints about the games themselves. Despite his impressive age, Dante cheerfully crushes his opponents - and he himself is no less effectively pierced through with sharp objects.

The direction has stood the test of time, in this regard the videos look better than other modern films (especially the videos from the third part). For those who missed the beginning of the Demon Hunter's story, this is a good opportunity to catch up. And it will be interesting for series veterans to knock their vain brother on the head again. Over the years, only the plot has inevitably aged and seems hackneyed.

Be that as it may, Capcom released a crooked port of the previous re-release with improved resolution and an honest sixty frames. It’s difficult to call such hack work a new and full-fledged reissue. If you are unlucky with bugs, there will be a reason to thank you once again Valve for the refund button. If you are one of those lucky ones who have avoided performance problems, you have a chance to return to Dante’s exciting adventures, including on PC. Legends of the genre still play damn well these days. These are the best games of their years. Plus Devil May Cry 2.

Dante is a mercenary who has dedicated his life to hunting demons, seeking the meaning of life in the hunt for those who killed his mother and harmed his brother. His father is the legendary dark knight Sparda, a demon who rebelled against the prince of the Underworld, Mundus, and defeated his army. Dante has supernatural abilities, demonic blood makes him very strong and resilient, in addition, Dante can turn into a demon for a short time, losing his human appearance, but becoming more powerful, which, together with the use of weapons, makes him a very difficult opponent. The character was created by game designer Hideki Kamiya to fit Devil May Cry's vision of a person being "cool" and "stylish". Dante has been well received by players, and is often cited as one of the coolest video game characters.

Concept

Dante first debuted in the video game Devil May Cry, which was originally a sequel to the Resident Evil series.

Characteristics

Dante is half-demon, half-human, the son of Sparda and an earthly woman. Being a half-breed, Dante has the ability to be in either of the two worlds. He is muscular, has silver-white hair with long bangs, blue eyes, and typically wears a red leather cape. Dante's arsenal includes firearms and bladed weapons, including two constant pistols, “Ebony” and “Ivory,” as well as swords “Rebellion” (Rus. Rebel) and "Force Edge" (Russian) Edge of Power). He has superhuman strength inherited from his father, which gives him the ability to temporarily transform into a demon. In this state, Dante possesses enormous strength, high speed and agility. Dante remains confident when facing any opponent, regardless of their size or strength, and often allows himself to taunt them before the fight begins.

Dante is very calm and serene all the time. He is constantly in debt and is unable to pay them. His favorite foods are pizza and strawberry ice cream, but he doesn't like pizza with olives.

Dante in the anime series

The main character of the anime. He has a bad character, but is skilled with weapons, which often helps him in problematic situations. Has a peculiar sense of humor. He hunts demons that have entered the human world. Usually armed with two pistols: “Ebony” (Russian. Black), "Ivory" (Russian) White), - and the sword “Rebellion” (Rus. Rebel). When it comes to food, she prefers pizza and strawberry dessert. Extremely unlucky at gambling, constantly losing to Lady and Patty.
