10. Driver

The advantage of the game was the recreated streets of Los Angeles. The developers were not too lazy to transfer the streets of Beverly Seals and Santa Monica to our screens. The total territory was 620 square kilometers, which was a lot for those times.

In addition to the chases familiar from the third GTA, True Crime contained decent bitmap elements with the obligatory practice of strikes.

Even despite the absence of Rockstar clones at that time, True Crime failed to find much fame. GTA was superior to Activision's game in every way.

7. Saints Row 2

This game could be an excellent GTA version. Actually, the first part of the game became such in its time. And although the banal plot about the confrontation between city gangs was not a new word, at least the developers were able to make a worthy copy of GTA.

However, the lack of optimization, problems with physics and a number of other technical problems make the game unsuitable for completion - even despite the discovery of style points, which are summed up by the plot respect necessary to access new missions.

And although Total Overdose became a bright and memorable clone of GTA, it never managed to linger in the memory of players for long.

4. ScarFase

Another clone, based on the cult film. This time such an honor fell to the film “Scarface” directed by Brian De Palma.

What kind of project is this? It resembles a somewhat “shredded” Minecraft, that is, it also consists of blocks, but smaller in size. It has its own story, RPG-like gameplay (that is, role-playing and leveling up) and even a plot. Which, however, you determine yourself. It's really fun to play, there are a lot of possibilities, even considering the fact that the game is not finished yet. Basically, the project is for those who are already a little tired of Minecraft, but want something similar. The game is free, so give it a try - you might just like it.

8. Just Alone

Survival simulator. Your hero is a scientist named Bill, whose ship crashed on Earth after an atomic apocalypse (or something like that) had already occurred. At the same time, Bill needs to escape from our no longer very friendly planet - after all, they are already waiting for him on another planet, where there is a colony of people, the leader of which he must become. The situation is complicated by the fact that we need to build a ship ourselves, without going to the locals for lunch (these mutants may love people, but only as food). In general, build a home, defend it, collect materials and look for a way to get out of here. Well, can you do it?

7. Salt

A game for those who love the sea. Here we have an archipelago on which you will have to exist (and survive). Here you have two options from the very beginning - create your own world in which you will survive on your own, or you can enter a pre-installed world in which you can play with friends (which, naturally, is more fun). In terms of capabilities, everything is as expected. You can travel around the archipelago and explore it, you can fight pirates, sell goods to merchants, and, of course, create items. And again we have a project for moremans. The main character is a scientist. Yes, again - you have to somehow justify everything that he can do. A peculiar thing. Hand-drawn graphics, a lot of interesting gameplay features (like taming monsters and other things) and a truly unusual plot. If we talk about the gameplay, it was not for nothing that it was said that the game is original. Firstly, there is a change of seasons (and life in winter is much more difficult than in summer, believe me), and secondly, sometimes many creatures and objects behave very unusually - for example, a cut down tree can get angry and take revenge on you. And so on in the same spirit. For those who are really bored - there is Don't Starve Together- a multiplayer version of this game.

4. The Forest

The name of the game can be translated as " Forest" That's right, with a capital letter. And believe me, this is really a Forest, and not a grove a couple of kilometers from home. A creepy place in which it is very difficult to survive. It’s not easy to get food and materials for construction here, and it’s even harder not to become food. After all, the locals are very unkind and hungry cannibals who are simply eager to see you at their banquet. As a main dish. If we give this game a brief description, it’s a gloomy Minecraft with good graphics. Otherwise, everything is very familiar. Both the crafting system and the range of possible actions (very wide, of course). In general, an exemplary “sandbox”.

3. Dwarf Fortress

A cult project of its kind. This is not a Minecraft clone - rather, Markus Persson was inspired by games like Dwarf Fortress (which, by the way, was released before the great and terrible). There are two main game modes - adventure mode, in which you travel around the world, and fortress mode, the main one and the most beloved by fans. The main characteristic of the game is its extreme hardcore nature. Firstly, there is ASCII graphics - that is, everything is done on the basis of characters. There are mods that provide pseudo-graphics, but you still shouldn’t expect any beauties. You might get comfortable with the local graphics, but then the gameplay comes into play. There are more opportunities and difficulties here than in all other sandboxes combined. And it's not a joke. The game is incredibly difficult to master - it’s not for nothing that its slogan sounds like “ Loosing is fun!"(losing is fun). But we assure you, the game is worth every minute of your time.

A Kickstarter game endorsed by Minecraft creator Markus Persson. This is a kind of strategy in which during the day we build a fortress (more precisely, our subordinates build it), and at night we fight off enemies. If we compare this toy with other projects, in terms of graphics it resembles Minecraft, and in terms of gameplay it resembles a simplified and lightweight version of Dwarf Fortress. Considering that the game is in development (although there are already working versions), there are already a lot of possibilities here. Strictly recommended to all those who like strategy-style sandboxes - after all, there are not so many games of this type. At least the really worthwhile ones.
