What does the concept of "Creepypasta" mean by itself?

Greetings! I think there are few such users of the World Wide Web who have not heard about "Cripipast". However, there are also such naive people who believe that all these stories are true)). But, if we briefly define the concept of "creepypasta", then it implies a full-fledged sphere on the Internet associated with fictional characters of fictional scary stories.

This whole story (forgive my tautology) began with one Internet community, whose users came up with their own horror stories (mainly about killer maniacs), and illustrated them themselves. Or, on the basis of the author's description, pictures with images of the characters of "Creepypasta" were drawn by other artists. Over time, all these terrible stories about the creatures terrorizing the civilian population were overgrown with new details, as many of them were retold, supplemented.

Most people understand that the characters in "Creepypasta" are fictional. But all the same, these stories are scary, and the killer maniacs themselves arouse genuine interest and inspire many people to work: they write fan fictions, draw art with them. And all because all the characters of "Creepypasta" have a terrible, but very memorable and in many ways attractive to young people appearance, as well as such unchanging qualities as cruelty and ruthlessness to their victims.

With great pleasure I will give an example of just a few, but the most popular characters of the popular creepy stories all over the Internet!) Each of them has its own legend-story that can captivate readers and pretty tickle their nerves!

The most popular character in "Creepypasta", about whom a film has already been shot and a large number of video games have been made. Remarkably, there is also a huge number of photographs, which allegedly captured Slender Man or "Thin Man". This character received such a nickname because of his appearance: tall, thin physique, incredibly long arms. The "Thin Man" is always dressed in a formal suit. Another notable feature of Slendrman is that he is a person without a face.

The history of the "Thin Man" is unknown. But it is claimed that he abducts children and kills them or makes them his helpers. Many horror stories say that wherever Slendrman was seen and even filmed, children were sure to disappear.

Perhaps, it is Jeff who can be called one of the most beloved and popular characters of "Creepypasta", since it is on him that they draw the most art, make cosplay, write fanficies about him ...

Jeff the killer is a real maniac. He enters the house in his victim and quietly watches her asleep. If the victim wakes up, he receives an order from Jeff to sleep further. In case of obedience, she has a chance to survive.

Jeff has a very memorable appearance: a white face, frenzied eyes without eyelids and an eerie smile from the cut corners of his mouth. How he came to such a life and acquired such a frightening appearance, you can find out by reading "Cripipasta", dedicated to the formation of this character.

The main character of this "Creepypasta" named Jack received the nickname "Eyeless" because he was born with completely black eyes. Because of this, all my childhood I had to endure contempt and ridicule. And then completely survive the murder of their parents. This became the starting point, after which Eyeless Jack can be called a real maniac: from his father's scalpel he began to carry out "operations" on the killers of his parents, and then as revenge on those who mocked him in childhood. Jack had a friend named Justin who helped him. But he soon could not stand such a life and laid hands on himself.

The most interesting thing about this character of "Creepypasta" is that he has the appearance of Link - the famous hero of the game "The Legends of Zelda". But it looks, of course, more creepy).

This "Creepypasta" tells the story of one gamer who was "lucky" to become a participant in a computer game on the verge of virtual and real reality. That is, the games brought the protagonist into the virtual world, which turned out to be no less real than ours with you. As a result, the events of the game become more and more confusing and can scare even big fans of horror stories, especially avid gamers!

Part of me hopes that one day I can read this and relax knowing that it will all be just bad memories, but for the most part I have come to terms with what seems to be my fate.

Earlier this year, I got to know the Touhou franchise. For those who don't know: Touhou is a series of BulletHell games created by the Japanese under the pseudonym ZUN, there are about 21 official games and even more fan games. The series immediately caught my eye, these games were a challenge I hadn't faced before (BulletHell shooters), and the fan community on the forums was very friendly. It has been several months since I met Touhou, and now I consider myself a huge fan of the series. I've played through all the official games, from the PC-98 era to the Windows era, I know all the characters and I even have favorites, I participate a lot in the life of the Touhou community and have watched a lot of fan content on the Internet. Before I discovered Touhou, no episode fascinated me as much.

I didn't even play the demo version, so when the full version of the game was released, I could get to know it without having the slightest information about what it is ("fresh" experience, so to speak). When the game was finally released, I decided to wait for the angloficator to see what was happening there. I didn’t know about the new translation installation mechanic and for several months I couldn’t find the English translator, but I had something to do, so I didn’t worry about it. In the end, in the anime and game store, I found something that I regret buying more than anything in my life. It was a plastic-wrapped Touhou 14 CD, probably in Japanese as it looked official.

During the installation, I did not notice one important thing that could save me from the curse - a small License Agreement, which I (like everything, probably) missed, especially since it was in Japanese, warned me that I should not play, but should get rid of the disk as soon as possible. I only found out about this when I reinstalled the game, trying to figure everything out, and translated the License Agreement from Japanese through a translator, but it was too late. After installation, a folder “TH14” with an application and a bunch of .dat files appeared on the computer. When I started the game, the clock was 1 AM (I didn't want to wait until tomorrow). The game started in full-screen mode and started, like all touho games - the main menu appeared with Reimu in the background.

Then something caught my attention: the extra level was already open. Extra-level is a special level, it opens if you complete the game on normal or higher difficulty without using continuations (1CC, 1 credit clear - that's what they call it). Has anyone played the game before me? There was such an opportunity. I bought the disc from a random anime and game sale store, buying a pirated disc shouldn't come as a surprise. I clicked on extra to see what characters the game was played with. I was surprised that the game gave out 2 options - "Extra-level" and "Phantasm-level".

The Phantasm Level was Yukari's level in Touhou 7 PCB, it is more difficult than the Phantasm Level and was present in only one game. What character could be the boss of a fantasy level? If it was Yukari again, it would seem lazy on the part of the developer. It was very plausible to think that this could be a new heroine, able to rival Yukari in strength. Then a thought flashed through my head: this could be the return of Mima!

Marisa Kirisame

Without thinking twice, I started playing Phantasm, hoping to finally see the return of one of my favorite characters. The only character open to this stage was Marisa, Mima's student, what could have happened if she had found her old mistress who had suddenly disappeared? I was more hopeful than ever and started playing. With the action taking place at the Hakurei Shrine (the place where Mima must have been sealed) and the enemies were ghosts from old PC-98 games, I was more than sure that Mima would finally return.

The level was hard, thanks to Marisa's lasers, I barely made it to the boss. God bless ZUN, it was Mima! It's a shame that I couldn't read the dialogue, but the surprise on Marisa's face was easy to read when Mima appeared. Her sprite was very well done; ZUN must have tried very hard while working on the graphics in this game. Then there was a series of incomprehensible lines of conversation between the two characters, but at least I could follow their expressions, Marisa's surprise and Mima's evil grin. Then, after a series of remarks from Mima, Marisa's face changed: now it displayed absolute fear, and it was obvious. Mima continued to speak, and I watched Marisa's face, wondering what Mima could have said to make one of the most fearless characters almost cry in horror (tears were clearly visible in her eyes). Suddenly, Mima began to transform into her "demon" form. I saw this transformation when I fought it in TH02, but the graphics level of the PC-98 did not allow me to see it in detail.

Now, with better graphics, the details were clearly visible. It was disgusting to say the least: there was nothing in this monster that resembled Mima. He had strange fangs, a face without jaws, green hair and Mima's hat, huge bat wings, and her moonstaff was now twice as large as usual. If before her transformation she described him to Marisa, then you can understand her horror. Fighting suddenly began, and I was unable to react quickly enough to escape a direct bullet hit. I had no extra lives left, and my bombs could not harm her, I had no choice but to focus and dodge as well as possible.

I was able to dodge her normal attack and prepared for a spell card. "Twilight Spark". "Wow, ZUN really follows the fans' creativity" - I thought and began to dodge 3 giant lasers. It was difficult to get away from these lasers, but when the bullets began to appear from the bottom edge of the screen, all my skills were not enough and I fell for one of the lasers.

I lost, and I didn't have the patience to play it again, but then I noticed that the screen went completely white. Gradually, the visibility returned, and I saw Marisa and the monstrous "demon" Mima, again speaking in an incomprehensible moonpeak (in Japanese text). I noticed that Marisa was burned, burns were visible on her face, hands, clothes were also somewhat burned. Marisa looked painfully at Mima during the conversation, but she didn't seem to care. Thank God, the "demon" Mima did not have its own art for the dialogues, only the boss sprite was visible. I felt guilty about Marisa's condition, I screwed up and Marisa paid for it, and so I skipped the dialogue as quickly as possible to replay the level without making the same mistakes. The dialogue ended, but I did not see the menu: I was not offered to replay or even quit.

Instead, after a few seconds of silence, Mima's sprite pointed with the end of the moonstaff at Marisa, and before I had time to wonder what she was going to do, she rushed to Marisa's sprite and thrust the staff into her. To my horror, the staff pierced Marisa's body with the sound of intestines being punctured (I can't associate this sound with anything else), and Marisa was left punctured. I sat there for half a minute as if petrified before realizing that the game was frozen. I pressed different keys but ended up knocking out the game through the task manager. As soon as the application disappeared from the screen, I realized that something was wrong. My wallpaper with Moko changed to the image of Mima standing over Marisa with a staff piercing her body in her hands and empty, blank eyes. What the hell is this? A bunch of options flashed through my head. Was this a hacked game?

ZUN's own tasteless joke? My programming knowledge was small, I could not find out. What about the image that suddenly appeared on my desktop? I looked for it in the wallpaper folder, then checked the computer for freshly downloaded files, and found nothing. In the end, I calmed down and decided that the image should be in .dat files and the game put it on the desktop as a draw. I was not worried about even impossible events as long as I found a semblance of a rational explanation for them. I decided to open the game folder; maybe restarting the game will give me some answers. Opening the folder, I immediately noticed: the application was renamed to "IT'S GOING", and the names of the .dat files were the phrase "GET OUT NOW". I believed it was part of a prank (the Japanese don't use English very rarely). I ignored the warnings and started the game.

The game started as usual, I ended up in the main menu, where I discovered that the extra level was no longer available, so I could not replay Phantasm. I looked through the options, instructions, but found nothing out of the ordinary. In the end, I decided to start a new game; maybe so I'll find out something. Once on the character select screen, I immediately tried to select Reimu, but the sound of "impossible action" sounded so loud it hurt my ears. So Reimu is not available. I tried to select Marisa, but she wasn't even there - no Marisa's sprite, no description, just an empty space. I tried playing as the missing character, but only got the same nasty sound.

I went over to Sakuya and tried to select her - the same result. However, there was also a fourth character - Mima. Phantasm boss and playable character AT THE SAME TIME? Obviously, hackers were at work here, fighting with herself Mima - this is stupid, and ZUN should have known this. Anyway, playing as Mima again, even in a hacked game, should be great, so I decided to give it a try. The first stage was the Hakurei Shrine, the enemies were ordinary fairies, none of them was equal to Mime. The soundtrack is impossible to describe, the most common Touhou soundtrack. After a few minutes of fighting the fairies, I met the first boss. I expected that it would be Reimu, because this is her temple, but instead they met me Suika. The dialogue was in Japanese and I skipped it. Suika was very strong for the first boss, but I passed it without any problems.

When I beat Suika, there was no dialogue. Instead, Mima moved forward and cut Suika in half. I watched her sprite split in two and slowly disappear into the background, leaving behind a pink spirit like TH13. Mima took this spirit before leaving the screen through the top. It feels like something evil "killed" Suika, but I had to admit: the idea was very cool. What kind of spirit did Mima take? I did not receive any additional life or part of it, as in TH13, the purpose of the spirit was incomprehensible. I thought that the purpose might be explained later, and continued. I was surprised when a "victory" screen appeared, similar to that from the classic Touhou games, with Mima in the background, but what surprised me even more was that Mima's hair turned black from green. What is the meaning of this change?

It annoyed me, since I liked the green color of her hair more, but it was not critical, and I continued. The second level was Yakumo's house, and the enemies were fairies with cat ears. I easily made my way through the level and found Ran as the boss. I hadn’t noticed this before, but Ran (like Suika before her) looked angry the entire time I spoke with Mima, as if they hated her. In the games where they first appeared, Mima did not participate, so I could not understand why they were so angry with her.

I ignored the dialogue and started kicking the spirit out of Ran, which I never liked. The fight was difficult, but not enough to make me nervous. When the fight was over, I expected Mima to cut Ran in the same way as Suika had previously, but instead she shot a giant laser beam at Ran, leaving only a pink spirit from Ran, which Mima immediately took away. I was glad they diversified Mima's finishing moves and moved on to the victory screen. The same screen as the first time, with glasses and everything else, except for one detail: Mima's sprite has changed again, now her skin is pale, whiter than the skin of any other character.

What did they want to do by changing Mima's appearance again? I was sure that I would get an answer to my question if I continued to play. Level 3 was called “The Gap” (in English). The level was a kind of dark place, there were hundreds of eerie red eyes everywhere, disturbing music sounded. I definitely ended up in Yukari's portal. The enemies were Evil Eyes - eyeballs with wings that gave me a strange feeling of nostalgia, even though I played PC-98 games AFTER Windows games.

The difficulty has grown a lot, even for an experienced player like me this should have been a problem. Oddly enough, I dodged all the bullets and bullet patterns without losing a single life or spending a single bomb. Finally I got to the third boss - Yukari. Yukari, who had always been portrayed as an eternally calm and relaxed youkai, was now clearly angry with Mima. What did Mima do to her? I didn't know, but my mission was to defeat Yukari, and I started the fight. Yukari was, as I expected, a really difficult boss, some of her danmaku looked downright creepy and dodging took a lot of skill.

Despite this, I defeated her without losing a single life, and I didn't even spend a bomb. I thought I made it through a combination of skill and luck (a lot of luck), but there was something about my flawless fight with Yukari, like the game was helping me to dodge. I got a little worried, but then put it out of my head, watching Mima finish off Yukari, releasing a flock of ghosts at her, until only a pink spirit remained of her. The victory screen appeared, and again Mima's sprite and appearance changed - her clothes turned into brown rags, and her hat disappeared. "It would be better if they had a good explanation of why Mima is so changing" - I thought and moved on to level 4.

The action again took place in the Hakurei Shrine, but it was completely destroyed, there were debris everywhere, some of them fell from above and could be nailed. The enemies were ghost fairies, like those used by Rin, with the difference that they did not return. The complexity was such that the hypothesis that the game helps me became even more plausible. I paved the way for the boss, Reimu. She was beside herself with rage and started yelling at Mima (who probably destroyed the temple after her fight with Suika), but Mima didn't seem to care about Reimu's anger, she just smirked and waited for Reimu to stop yelling. The dialogue was in Japanese, I didn't understand the plot, I just had to enjoy the game. The fight with Reimu was probably the toughest fight in the history of Touhou, the bullet curtains were such that even Korean nerds would give up. But I still didn't use up any lives or bombs!

Now there was no doubt: the game EXACTLY helped me to dodge bullets. What for? The hackers probably wanted the player to get to the end of their game for sure. Reimu suffered the same fate as Marisa: Mima's staff pierced her stomach. Another pink spirit left Reimu's body, and Mima wasted no time in taking it. I expected another transformation in appearance, but not like that. Mima's face was distorted, her eyes turned into two large holes, and her mouth became a toothless smile. A chill ran down my spine when I saw what Mima had become, and then a phrase appeared in English: "We are almost there, keep up the good work!" I went this far, I wanted to see the whole game to the end.

Like Touhou 2, this game only had 5 levels. The last level was Makai, and to my surprise, there were no enemies there. Instead, bullets and lasers were coming from everywhere, trying to kill me. It was so easy that I didn't even need the help of the game. Very unimportant for the last level. I got to the boss of the level without any problems - Shinki, the goddess of Makai. The dialogue began, I was about to skip it, but then I realized: Shinki spoke English. Deciding that the hackers wanted to embarrass the Japanese players in this way, I began to read the now understandable dialogue. Gensokyo (the world in which the Touhou series took place was destroyed and the last thing that prevented Mima from entering the human world was Makai's existence. I helped Mime and somehow destroyed Gensokyo, this sudden news made me laugh a little. killing multiple bosses could destroy this world.

"Karl, this is serious!" Sinki said. I looked with a drooping jaw at the text addressed to me personally. How? My name is not written anywhere on the computer! My username, of course, was different, the computer did not have any personal information about me, I only used it for games! However, after all:

"Karl, this is serious!"

While I was shocked by the mention of my own name, Mima spoke up.

"Karl, we've come too far to go back, don't you want to finish this? I'll help you!" A strong desire to finish the game began to build up in me, I was close to taking everything into my own hands and fighting, but Shinki stopped me.

"" Don't let her rule you! When she gets out of here, the first thing she does is kill you! "Kill me? How? This is just a video game, right? How can a fictional character kill me, a real person?"

"We are not fictional characters, we look like this because of the nature of the place where we are sealed." "Sealed?" I asked. I didn’t expect an answer, but Shinki replied as if she were listening to me: "A vengeful spirit is trapped within the disc, a spirit strong enough to resist the exorcism. If the seal falls, the spirit will be free to roam the world and take revenge on all of humanity!"

"Humanity? Why all of us, and not someone in particular?" I asked.

"This spirit is the spirit of a girl who slowly and painfully died at a young age. She was abandoned by her parents, all alone, no one knew about her and did not notice that she was gone; she died, cursing the whole world for her suffering and so much hatred for herself that her spirit is doomed to seek vengeance without rest. " That is why she chose Mima as her representative - she is also a vengeful spirit, whose goal is to take revenge on all people.

"If Mima is a spirit in this game, who are you then?" I had so many questions, but I was afraid that I would not have enough time to ask them. "I am the last barrier of this seal, and if I die, the seal falls and it can escape, you have already helped it to destroy the rest of the barriers." I was able to understand what was happening up to this point. Mima killed those who provided Gensokyo's existence. Reimu Dies - Gensokyo is destroyed unless Yukari can quickly find a replacement, but Yukari is also dead. Ran could have done anything at Yukari's orders, but she too is killed. Finally, if Gensokyo were destroyed, Suika could use her powers to create a new (albeit smaller) Gensokyo, so Mima killed her as well.

Here's how: Gensokyo represented the seal, and the bosses represented the barriers. Makai was all that was left of the seal, but apart from the rest of the seal, his strength had diminished, as was evident from the way the difficulty had decreased at that level. I have never felt this kind of guilt; I was the one who helped break down the barrier, and I would have finished it off completely if the barrier hadn't found a way to contact me.

"But why was the spirit imprisoned in this dis ..." - I was interrupted. Mima, surprisingly not saying a word during our dialogue with Shinki, suddenly spoke up.

"If you're not going to help me break the seal, I'll do it myself!" After saying this, Mima broke off the dialogue and began to move on her own.

"Stop her, quickly!" Shinki begged. She tried to defend herself, but she lacked strength, and Mima easily dodged her attacks. However, Mima's movements looked slow and awkward; it is unlikely that she could have passed the rest of the bosses without my help. Looking at the battle taking place on the screen, I was looking for a way to help Shinki. In a panic, I decided to pull the cord out of the computer so that the fight would not end and Mima would not break the seal. It sounded great, but it didn't work: I watched in horror as my computer continued to operate without electricity.

Shinki was losing the fight, I tried to do everything in my power, but it was in vain. Mima will win and break the seal, freeing herself from everything that hindered her revenge. With mixed feelings of dread and rage, I looked around the room and noticed the joystick that my brother and I were playing with recently. This can be called a premonition: I immediately plugged in the joystick and started pressing the buttons. A sense of superiority came over me when I saw Mima moving where I was directing her. Immediately, I aimed her at the bullets, killing her.

I was close to celebrating the victory, but then Mima reappeared without even losing her life. This is the end. No matter how much I kill Mima, she will appear again and again. Sooner or later, the battle will end with Mima's victory. I lost hope, but Shinki asked what else I could do. Full screen text appeared:

"There is a way to end this and solve the problem you helped create. Cut yourself and sacrifice your blood to the machine. The spirit will be sealed, but you will carry our burden for the rest of your days."

Despair and guilt drove me crazy. Without thinking twice, I grabbed my trusty knife, cut my finger deeply and put it to the USB port, as if it were a girl's special place. I felt a strong electric shock, the pain lasted until the computer suddenly turned off.

I sat down on a chair, put my face in my hands and cried. I was very tired, my finger ached so hellishly, and I was not sure that everything that happened was not just a hallucination. After sitting for a couple of minutes, I decided to turn on the computer. My normal wallpaper is back, Moco's image relaxed me a bit. She was there, on the spot, the folder with TH14. I wanted to remove it to forget about the events of that night, but one thought stopped me. Was the spirit really trapped there? Did I really stop him? Everything that happened - was it real or not? Doubt consumed me, so I took a deep breath and opened the folder.

At least the app was named correctly. I ran TH14.exe. The game started normally, Extra level was unavailable when I selected a new game, all characters were available. Marisa returned, and there was no 4th character and should not have been. At the sight of the game returning to normal, I was so relieved that I closed the game and decided to go to bed. I turned off my computer and stood for a while, admiring the ever-beautiful flowers growing in the backyard. Then I screamed so loudly that I probably woke up the neighbors. She was there, the girl that Mima had become in the game, the spirit that was sealed.

I froze in horror: she had black holes instead of eyes, but she, one might say, looked at me with a look containing such hatred that I wanted to cry. My father quickly ran into the room to see what had happened. In horror, speechless, I pointed with my finger at the pale girl who was looking at me. My father seemed to be looking out the window for eternity, then he turned to me and said:

"I see nothing but flowers."

"You probably saw a cat or something like that and chewed it up. Go to bed, you're sixteen." My father said that, laughed and left. I went to bed and began to collect my thoughts. Everything was clear now. By sacrificing my blood, I agreed to seal the spirit by becoming a new seal, as the text read:

"You will carry our burden for the rest of your days."
