Is it possible to get an artifact without a legion? Artifacts and class strongholds. Notes on the appearance of artifacts in WWII
Basic information:
There is an artifact for each specialization of each class - thus, there are 36 combat artifacts in the Legion. This is an exceptionally powerful weapon.
The 37th artifact is related to fishing - it is a fishing rod for fishermen.
To receive the artifact, you need to complete the quest chain for your specialization. As the quests progress, you will learn a lot of information about famous representatives of your class.
The Artifact is your character's main weapon in the Legion. There is no stronger weapon.
Artifact Traits/Talents – Improve the abilities of your class.
Relics are items that can be inserted into an artifact to enhance certain talents and increase the overall level of the item (and, accordingly, its characteristics).
The power of the artifact grows as the Power of the artifact is gained. This unlocks new available talents and relics.
Artifact Knowledge is a special system that allows players to quickly obtain artifacts for the second and third specializations.
All artifacts of your class can be obtained through the campaign in the class stronghold.
Artifacts have different styles and colors that can be unlocked by performing certain actions. An artifact can be transmogrified into another weapon (see the Legion transmog guide), but you cannot give a weapon the appearance of an artifact.

Artifact Power in WOW Legion
Artifact talents can be upgraded using Artifact Power. At the same time, Artifact Power is not a currency (it cannot be accumulated and spent), but is rather similar to experience: by receiving Artifact Power, you unlock new talents in the talent tree of your weapon.
The current amount of available Artifact Power is displayed above the experience bar. By hovering your cursor over it, you will see how many units of Artifact Power you are missing before unlocking the next talent.
Artifact power in Legion can be obtained through the use of consumable items, such as a Glass of Dalaran Wine or a Brief History of the Ages.
Items that provide Artifact Power can be obtained in different ways:
Treasure hunt;
Missions in a class stronghold;
PvP victories on battlefields and arenas;
Completing major quests or local tasks;
Chests for completing a series of local quests (for 4 tasks for one faction);
Additional objectives and bonus tasks in the open world;
Drop from rarities, bosses in dungeons and raids of the Legion, world bosses;
Completing random dungeons on normal and heroic difficulty;
Here is a list of all items that grant Artifact Power.

When you receive one of these items, click on it to add Power to the artifact currently equipped on your character.
If you want to add Artifact Power to a weapon you have in your inventory (an artifact for your other specialization), you first need to equip this artifact, and only then use a consumable item.
The power of artifacts is calculated separately for each weapon. That is, if you added 10,000 units of artifact power to the current artifact, this will not affect the weapons for your other specializations.
The amount of Artifact Power obtained from similar consumable items is can be increased with Artifact Knowledge. More details about this are written in the corresponding section of our guide.
Every time you spend Power on upgrading artifact talents, the cost of unlocking subsequent talents increases significantly. To upgrade the first talent, you need 100 units of Strength, and then this number can reach up to 5,000,000.
Artifact Talents (features)
Features (or talents) of the artifact - these are special skills that are unlocked as you level up the artifact. To learn each talent you need Artifact Power, and as you level up more talents on one weapon, subsequent talents require more and more Artifact Power.
Full list of talents
Each artifact weapon has one free talent (the very first one), which does not require resources to level up and gives you a powerful class ability. Typically, the ability from the first talent is active and appears on your ability bar, but for some classes and specializations it can be passive.

Artifact Talent Calculator (Wowhead)
How to unlock new artifact talents
Artifact talents are basically passive skills that enhance certain abilities of your class (for example, ability damage or chance of proc of some effect).
To view the talent tree, simply click on your artifact. You can upgrade new talents ONLY at a special forge in your class stronghold.
Talents have from 1 to 3 improvement ranks. You need to spend Artifact Power to increase the rank of features - and this will make the weapon more powerful.
It is necessary to upgrade all ranks of one talent (1-3) to open access to the next one.
Relics can add bonus ranks for talents (up to 6 ranks if all three relics are for one talent). Artifact power is not required to level up bonus ranks from relics. More details about relics are written in the corresponding section of our guide to artifacts in the Legion.
The total number of ranks for all talents is 34(excluding the first free ability). At this level, all artifact talents will be available and upgraded. At the same time, you can upgrade talents in any order (as far as provided for by the talent tree).
Some talents have a golden dragon border around them. These talents have separate visual effects and have a more noticeable impact on the game than regular talents.
When you level up all 34 tiers of artifact talents, you will gain access to a “bonus” feature that has 20 levels. She is also pumped up with Artifact Power, but only gives a direct increase in damage/healing/armor (depending on the character's specialization).
Maximum bonus values at rank 20: +15% damage / +15% healing / +29% armor.
Artifact Talent Reset and Redistribution
You can reset your current talents at any time and redistribute them in a new way by paying a certain amount of Artifact Power. The cost of resetting is equal to the cost of leveling up the next rank with the current talent layout.
For example, you have leveled up 18 ranks and decided to change the talent layout. This will cost the same amount of Artifact Power as leveling up rank 19 would cost (in the WOW Legion beta it is 24,000 SA).
By making a reset, you can reallocate 18 ranks to any talents of your choice.
Please note: Artifact Power will not be returned to you; you can simply level up 18 ranks for any talents.
Resetting and redistributing artifact talents is not recommended due to the high cost of this operation. Plus, in the end, you will still unlock and upgrade all available talents.
To reset talents, talk to the character standing next to the artifact mountain in the class stronghold.
Increased damage and stamina from ranks
The total number of ranks pumped up for an artifact affects the increase in stamina and damage done (up to rank 34, when all talents are learned).
Healers and tanks receive +0.75% stamina and +1% damage dealt per rank (up to +25.5% stamina and +34% damage with fully upgraded weapons);
DC priests, as a hybrid of damage dealer and healer, receive +0.75% stamina and +0.5% damage for each rank (maximum +25.5% stamina and +17% damage);
DDs gain +0.75% stamina per rank (maximum +25.5% stamina).
Cost of leveling up talents
The table below shows the increase in the cost of leveling up talents depending on the current rank. Please note that the cost of unlocking subsequent ranks increases exponentially.

Talent Summary
Helpful Notes:
For the first 34 ranks, the cost of leveling up increases exponentially, and for leveling up a bonus talent - linearly (approximately +5% of the cost of the previous rank).
Note: the cost of leveling up talents increases significantly after rank 13- Rank 14 requires more Artifact Power (6840) than the first 13 ranks combined (6500). If you plan to play another specialization for a long time, it makes sense to first level up 13 ranks for the second artifact, and only then level up 14th rank for the first weapon.
Total cost of ranks:
To get the first 13 ranks:
1 artifact: 6500 SA
2 artifacts: 13000 SA
3 artifacts: 19500 SA
Full upgrade of all talents:
1 artifact: 5,216,130 SA
2 artifacts: 10,432,260 SA
3 artifacts: 15,648,390 SA
Leveling up 20 ranks of bonus talent: 60,040,200 SA
All core talents + 20/20 bonus talent: 65,256,330 CA
Don't be alarmed by such large numbers: thanks to Artifact Knowledge, the amount of SA you receive daily increases significantly. At the maximum Knowledge level (25), the amount of artifact Power received increases by 24,000%. More details about this are written in the section of the guide dedicated to Artifact Knowledge.
Artifact Relics
Artifact Relics in Legion are similar to the gemstones found in previous World of Warcraft expansions. Relics are inserted into sockets and serve two purposes:
Increases the level of an item (as well as primary and secondary characteristics).
Give a “bonus” rank to certain artifact talents.
On Wowhead you can see a complete list of relics available in the game.
More about relics
Artifact weapons have 3 slots for relics:
2 slots are available immediately after receiving the weapon;
1 slot is locked and opens only after completing the campaign in a class stronghold.
There are several types of relics; each artifact, in turn, has a unique set of sockets associated specifically with that weapon.
For example, the weapon of the Priests of Darkness has 2 slots for the relics of Darkness and 1 slot for the relic of Blood, and the artifact of the Ice Mages has 2 slots for the relics of Ice and 1 slot for the relic of Arcane magic.
There are 10 types of relics in total: Ice, Blood, Fel, Light, Fire, Iron, Life, Darkness, Storm and Arcane;
Not all specializations can receive a bonus from a certain relic: this depends on the slots available on the weapons of a given spec.
Relics also vary in quality - there are uncommon, rare and epic relics. You can get them in the following ways:
World drop
Bosses in dungeons and raids, world bosses.
If a relic is a quest reward, its quality upon completion of the quest with a small probability can be increased: from unusual to rare; from rare to epic.
Some relics (craft and world drop) are not personal and can be sold at auction.
These relics can have different item levels (ilvl), depending on the level of the character they dropped.
For example, relic level The Nar'thalas Manuscript at auction can range from 670 to 780.
At the same time, the level requirements also change: a level 670 relic can be used at character level 100+; a level 731 relic can only be used by characters 105+.
At the auction, such items can be found on the Stones > Artifact Relics tab.
Those relics that you receive as personal loot or as a reward for quests always correspond to your current specialization. Additionally, they always match your artifact (meaning they are the same type as the slots on your weapon).
A relic inserted into an artifact cannot be pulled out again: it can only be destroyed or replaced with a new relic. Those items that you will not use can be sold to a merchant or disenchanted using Enchanting.
Relic Effect #1: Item Level Up
Each relic has a certain item level - in beta it ranged from 670 to 895.
The higher the level of the relic, the more item levels it will add to the artifact.
For example, Soul Fibril (level 805, craft) will add +31 ilvl to the weapon, and Flickering Spark of Time (level 850, drop in raids) will add +43 ilvl.
Relics that drop in dungeons, raids, and from world bosses, when dropped, have a certain chance of being upgraded by +5 item levels. Taking into account all difficulty options, the maximum item level for such relics is 895.
The starting level of all artifacts is 750, and each relic inserted into a socket increases this level. The maximum level of an artifact that can be overclocked in T19 content is 918(with three improved level 895 relics).
Relics can be inserted into your artifact to increase the item's level. Each relic also allows you to increase the rank of one feature of the artifact.
The table below shows the levels of relics depending on the source of receipt:

Relic Effect #2: Bonus Ranks for Talents
Each relic improves a specific artifact talent. On Wowhead, a list of such talents can be viewed by selecting the “Improves” tab on the relics page. Thus, if you want to enhance a certain talent on an artifact, you need to look for special relics.
The relic immediately gives an additional rank and increases it. If it was 0/3, it will become 1/4.
Relics do not allow you to cheat the talent system: if a relic turns a 0/1 talent into a 1/2, you will still need to level one rank to move further up the talent tree.
One talent can be maximally upgraded to rank 6/6. In this case, all three relics in the artifact slots should improve one talent.
How to get an artifact in WoW Legion
The first artifact in the Legion can be obtained at level 100.
All classes receive their artifact through completing the introductory quest chain. In this case, you will need to use the unique abilities of your specialization.
For example, Survival hunters will actively use traps, and Assassination robbers will move around Stormwind in Stealth mode.
At the end of the missions, you gain access to the class stronghold, and also learn how to operate the artifact and the command table for missions in the stronghold.
Obtaining the second, third, fourth artifact
Upon reaching level 102, your character will be able to obtain artifacts for all specs of your class. For most, this is 3 artifacts, for Demon Hunters - 2, for Druids - 4.
To get the second artifact, you need to return to the class stronghold and take on the quest to select an artifact. The game will then prompt you to complete a quest chain for that weapon.
After receiving the second artifact, a chain for obtaining the third (and then, for druids, the fourth) will become available.
Video of the chains for obtaining the artifact can be viewed at Youtube.
Note:
The chain for each artifact was created taking into account specialization: healers will need to heal the group, tanks will need to take on monsters, and damage dealers will need to complete standard quests for collecting items / killing monsters.
You can change your specialization along the chain. That is, you can make a chain for a healer in the DD spec if you kill all the enemies before they destroy your group. However, this will not be the easiest task.
If you have multiple artifacts, they will be automatically equipped when you change specialization. You cannot equip an artifact that does not match your current specialization.
Artifacts cannot be destroyed. Remember that each artifact received will always occupy one slot in your inventory.
Obtaining all artifacts available for your class is rewarded with the achievement Impressive arsenal .
Artifact Knowledge
Artifact Knowledge serves to increase the Artifact Power you gain from items over time.
Artifact knowledge becomes available at level 110. You will receive two tasks related to completing orders:
Hidden History - Recover 4 volumes of knowledge scattered across Azeroth.
Digging through books - complete a work order.
Once both tasks are completed, you can continue completing orders to obtain Artifact Data, which increases your Artifact Knowledge level.
At the start of the Legion It takes 5 days to complete one order for Artifact Data. However, the new addition will implement a special system that will count the number of days from the launch of the Legion, and based on this number, reduce the order completion time to 4 days, 3 days, and so on.
This system is designed for alts and those who will start playing long after the release date of Legion.
Each order for Notes on Legion Artifacts will cost 500 Order Resources (read Where to get class Order Resources in Legion).
Each item of Artifact Data increases the level of Artifact Knowledge by 1. You can reach a maximum of 25 levels of Artifact Knowledge:
Thus, initially you will increase the knowledge level by 1 every 5 days.
The increase in Artifact Power bonus ranges from 25% at level 1 to 24,000% at level 25.
Each level increases the amount of Artifact Power that the character receives from consumable items.
At the same time, Artifact Knowledge does not increase SA on the following items:
Any items in the inventory obtained BEFORE reaching the current level of Artifact Knowledge.
All quest rewards (applies only to leveling quests, not to world quests).
All items are from treasures.
Thus, there is no benefit to collecting items with Artifact Power in advance in hopes of increasing your SA after leveling up your Artifact Knowledge.
The Artifact Knowledge level is the same for all specializations of one character. This will be especially useful for pumping up artifacts for the second spec. For individual characters on the same account, the Artifact Knowledge level must be gained separately.

Artifact of the robber of the “Stealth” branch:
Appearance of artifacts
At the start of the Legion, 5 appearance styles will be available for each World of Warcraft artifact, with 4 colors in each. Another style will appear in subsequent patches (7.1 or 7.2).
Each appearance option is unlocked in different ways. Once a specific skin for an artifact is unlocked, you can activate it next to the artifact furnace in the class hall.
Notes on the appearance of artifacts in WWII:
Artifact weapons can be transmogrified into any other weapon, subject to the same conditions as before (for example, the type of weapon must be the same).
Some skins change the artifact type (for example, one of the appearance options for hunters changes the weapon type from “gun” to “bow”).
At the beginning of the Legion there will be 5 styles available, obtaining each is associated with a specific aspect of the game:
Classic Skin: Campaign in a Class Stronghold;
Improved appearance: class stronghold, artifact, archaeological finds;
Valiant Form: PvE progress;
Military appearance: PvP progress (prestige);
Hidden appearance: obtainable depending on class and specialization;
Sixth skin: will not be available immediately after launch, but will appear later.
In this case, you will first need to unlock the skin itself (that is, the “main color” in a given style) in order to gain access to other colors of this style.
For example, you may receive one of the skins for the Unleashed Monsters achievement, but it will not be available until you unlock the main color of that skin through the Balance of Power quest chain.
All appearance options that you unlock become available for all specializations of the same character. On the other hand, unlocking new skins is not account-wide; other characters will need to unlock skins separately.
The exception is the account-wide Glory of the Legion Hero achievement, which unlocks the corresponding artifact appearance for all characters on the same account. But again, to use this skin, you must first “unlock” the entire style by completing the “Balance of Power” chain.
How to unlock/unlock all artifact skins in WoW
1. Classic look
Relevant achievement: Fight in Style: Improved Look .
2.1. Home Color: Complete the campaign in a Class Hall.
In fact, you need to get the achievement Hardened for battle .
2.2. Color #2: Unlock all Artifact Talents.
Achievement: Embodied power. To get this colorway, you need to unlock all 34 ranks in Artifact Talents (excluding the bonus talent). To open all ranks you will need 5,216,130 units of Artifact Power.
2.3. Color #3: Find out the full history of the artifact in your class hall.
You need to complete two quests related to orders for Artifact Knowledge (you can read about them in the corresponding section of our artifact guide). Quests are only available at level 110. Achievement: Improving the story .
2.4. Color #4: Complete the achievement This side up .
The only coloring of artifacts associated with Archeology. To obtain it, you need to collect 8 rare archaeological projects in the Legion.
Please note: Rare finds in Legion are obtained differently than in other expansions. Every two weeks, the Archeology trainer (Dariness the Competent) will have a task, for which you will be offered a rare project as a reward. To complete quests with the Archeology teacher, you need level 110.
3. Valiant appearance
Achievement for all 4 appearance options: Fight in Style: Valiant Look .
3.1. Main Color: Complete the Balance of Power quest chain.
This is a fairly long chain that starts in your class hall at level 110 and has many stages. Among other things, you will need to bring 30 pieces of Blood of Sargeras (read How to get Blood of Sargeras in WOW), complete several heroic dungeons and obtain items from the Emerald Nightmare raid.
3.2. Color #2: Complete the achievement Unleashed Monsters .
To get the achievement, you need to kill 8 out of 10 Legion world bosses in the Broken Isles.
3.3. Color #3: Complete a Challenge Mode dungeon using a level 15 key.
To unlock this colorway, you need to complete a Mythic dungeon on difficulty level 15. You can use your own key or someone else's.
3.4 Color #4: Complete the achievement Glory to the Hero of the Legion .
This meta achievement requires completing 26 achievements in 10 Legion dungeons on Mythic difficulty. The achievement is common to the account, and so is this appearance for the artifact.
4. Seasoned look
Achievement: (Horde) / Fight in Style: Seasoned Look(Alliance).
4.1. Main Color: Complete Victor's Curse at Prestige 1, Rank 50.
You need to reach the first level of prestige and gain honor again at rank 50 through the new Legion PvP system. Achievement: Prestige (Horde) / Prestige (Alliance).
4.2. Color #2: Reach Prestige Level 5 and receive the Badge of Heroism.
To unlock this skin, you need to raise the prestige level 5 times using honor points. This appearance option can only be unlocked in the second PvP season of the Legion(since in the first season the maximum prestige level is 4).
Achievements:
Crest of Heroism (Horde)
Crest of Heroism (Alliance)
4.3. Color #3: Reach Prestige Level 9 and receive the Mark of Carnage.
Can only be obtained in the third season of PvP in the Legion (maximum prestige level in the second season is 8).
Achievements:
How to get a secret artifact skin in WOW Legion

5.3. Color #3: Complete 200 World Quests with a hidden appearance on an artifact.
5.4. Color #4: Kill 1000 enemy players using a hidden artifact appearance.
6. Sixth appearance (one of the Legion patches)
Nothing is known yet about how to obtain the sixth appearance option for Legion artifacts. Information will appear closer to one of the next patches (7.1, 7.2, etc.)
All options for the appearance of artifacts for each class and specialization can be found in the artifact calculator on Wowhead (in the “Appearance” tab).
Artifact of the Death Knight of the “Unholy” branch:
Hidden effects of Legion artifacts
Artifacts in Legion can have various hidden effects.
Here's what one of the WOW Legion developers said about it:
"When you're dealing with items as powerful as some of the artifacts players will receive in Legion, there's no telling what mysterious things might happen."
There are several suggestions as to what could be the hidden effects of the artifacts in Legion:
Hunter's Swiftness, Feral Druid: Ashhide's claws are filled with the blood of beasts, providing a 3% increase in movement speed. The effect dissipates when the druid enters combat.
Valkyra's Gaze, Fury Var: If the warrior kills an enemy within 8 seconds of the effect triggering, he will restore 50% of his health.
Ashbringer, Retro Paladin: There is a chance that the Ashbringer will instantly kill a small demon or undead near the character.
Summon Eagles, Hunter: When a hunter's health drops below 40%, an eagle comes to his aid for 10 seconds; fires no more than once every three minutes.
Some artifacts can talk to their owners (for example, Aluneth for the arcane mage or the Skull of Man'ari for the warlock), and will often whisper something during adventures around the world.
Cosmetic effects
There are also some cosmetic effects associated with artifacts in the game:
Paladins can see demons in Dalaran using Revealing Light.
Air elementals in Stormheim are friendly to Elemental shamans.
Some classes have a special animation for the Away status (Frost DK, Druids, and Healing Shamans).
Some NPCs react to a character with an artifact. For example, the elven blacksmith in Dalaran admires Felo'Melorn (an artifact of the fire mages).
Artifacts FAQ
This section of the artifact guide contains the most frequently asked questions about the main weapons of the Legion.
1. How much space does the artifact take up in your bag?
Two-handed artifacts obviously occupy one slot. But, interestingly, double artifacts (for example, Fist+Shield) also only take up one space in the bag. Agree, this is a nice space saver, especially if you collect artifacts for several specializations.
2. How does transmog work with artifacts?
You can transmogrify an artifact into another weapon, but you cannot transfer the appearance of the artifact to another weapon. You can use different transmogrifications for different parts of the artifact (for example, right- and left-handed daggers).
3. Can you change talents, relics or the appearance of an artifact anywhere?
Relics can be inserted into weapons anywhere. To change your appearance and activate new talents (ranks), you need to be near a special forge in your class stronghold. To redistribute talents on an artifact, you need to talk to the NPC who stands next to the forge in the class stronghold.
4. What should I do if I chose the wrong artifact, sold my old weapon and want to level up to level 102 in a different spec?
The quartermaster of your class stronghold sells level 740 weapons, off-hand weapons, and shields for 100 gold. You can purchase them as a replacement for an artifact until you reach level 102.
5. Is it possible to destroy an artifact in WoW?
After completing the quest chain and receiving the artifact, you will not be able to destroy it or sell it to a merchant.
6. How can I see the leveling of artifact talents from other players?
In the standard World of Warcraft interface, you cannot see the layout of artifact talents for other characters, but you can see the level of the item.
7. Will it be possible to use the acquired artifact appearances for transmog after Legion?
Most likely, yes - all variants of the appearance of artifacts can be transmogrified after Legion (in the next expansion). In this case, it is implied that the skins can be unlocked during Legion, but after the expansion they will not be obtainable. This also applies to new forms of the druid (the appearance of the Cat and the Bear changes from the artifact).
8. Can artifacts be used in PvP?
Artifacts and their effects can be used in all PvP situations: arenas, battlegrounds, open world.
9. Will Artifact Knowledge be account-wide?
No, Artifact Knowledge will not be account bound. This system allows you to get artifacts faster for alternate specializations, but not for alternate characters.
This material is a translation of a large guide on Legion artifacts published on the wowhead resource. You can read the original at this address. Some details from personal experience of being in beta have also been added.
Update Patch 7.2. In patch 7.2, the artifact system has undergone some changes. .
Update Patch 7.3. In patch 7.3, the artifact system was once again modernized. .
Introduction
Seven years ago at Blizzcon 2009, the Cataclysm expansion was announced. Among all the innovations that awaited players, the “path of the Titans” was announced, a new character development system at the highest level. What little was shown spoke of trees (or rather, circles) of talents that were unlocked as various tasks were completed, including those related to archaeology. Those who have played longer remember how it all ended. The Path of the Titans was cut from the release of the third addition to the game.
Apparently, the developers decided to return to the theme of an additional branch of character development, of course, with some adjustments. Indeed, we have a “closed” talent tree that needs to be developed. These talents guarantee some special abilities that can be enhanced. In general, in some respects, the concept was continued.
The main thing about artifacts:
- each spec receives their own artifact weapon (except for the fishing artifact, which will be available to everyone);
- You can get the artifact by completing a quest that will reveal the unique features of your class and tell you about important characters in the world;
- the artifact is your main weapon in Legion, you will not have another (or rather, you will, but only to complete the starting scenario on the Broken Isles and quests to obtain the first artifact);
- Artifact traits increase various class abilities, while relics improve certain traits and increase the ilvl of weapons;
- the power of artifacts increases through Artifact Power (AP), the discovery of traits and Relics, which can be installed in sockets available on weapons;
- Artifact Knowledge (AK) is a system that helps players progress faster with artifacts for offspecs. You can get all the artifacts for your class in the Stronghold;
- Artifacts have different appearances and colors that can be unlocked through different activities. You will be able to transmogrify an artifact, but other weapons cannot take on the shape or colors of the artifact;
- Upgrading an artifact is strongly tied to the Class Stronghold, so to increase the Knowledge of the artifact you need to place orders in the Stronghold for the corresponding resource.
How to get an artifact?
Everything is very simple. After the scenario, which takes place on the Broken Isles, you will immediately be given a quest in Dalaran. I passed it as a hunter. After selecting the artifact, we received another quest to complete in the scenario and at the first stage we needed to save Alleria Windrunner. At the end of the scenario, a “blank” bow without traits was given. At the last stage, I was sent to a class stronghold, where the artifact acquired traits. Nothing special really, just follow the directions.

Upgrading and customizing artifacts
Artifact Power
Traits become available as you gain Artifact Power (hereinafter referred to as AP). It's not a currency you collect and spend, it's more like exp. As you receive it, you use it to unlock a new artifact trait. Artifact power can be obtained through various used items (for example, Dalaran Wine Glass, Brief History of the Aeons, Brief History of the Ages).
There is a bar in the interface (above the experience bar) that shows how close you are to unlocking the next trait.
Items that allow you to receive Artifact Power are obtained in the following ways:
- main quests/world quests;
- world quest chests;
- hidden treasures;
- random dungeons of normal and heroic difficulty;
- drop from bosses in dungeons, raids, world bosses, rares;
- Class Stronghold missions;
- victories on the battlefield;
- victories in arenas;
Having received such an item, click on it to add Artifact Power to the weapon you are currently carrying. If you want to add power to another artifact weapon, then you need to equip it first and only then use the item. Artifact power is a parameter that is tied to a specific weapon and does not apply to artifacts for other specs. Artifact knowledge is an attribute that you can pump up and, as a result, increase the rate of receiving artifact power from most sources.
Artifact Traits
Artifact traits are special abilities that are unlocked over time on artifact weapons. Each trait requires a certain amount of Artifact Power. Each subsequent trait will require more and more Artifact Power. Each weapon has an Artifact Ability that can be unlocked and which guarantees an additional spell, usually with a powerful effect. Some are passive, but for most specs these will be active spells that can be cast. These spells appear on the information summary above each artifact.
Traits are, for the most part, passive abilities that improve your class's abilities. Let's say they increase the damage from ability X by a certain amount. In order to see what traits are inherent in your artifact, press the Shift-click combination with the right mouse button on your artifact weapon. Remember that the choice of new traits for your weapons can only be made in the Artifact Forge in the Class Hall.
Traits have levels from 1 to 3. To gain a new level, you need to invest Artifact Power into the trait. Relics add "bonus" levels to a specific artifact trait. This trait can be enhanced by a maximum of 6 levels. Additional Artifact Levels that add Relics do not require Artifact Power.
You must max the trait (up to level 3) in order to continue unlocking traits. A total of 34 points are available to invest in the Artifact Trait Tree, and the path along which you will discover traits depends only on your choice. Eventually, when you get all 34 points, you will have maxed out all the traits on your artifact weapon. Several traits have a golden dragon border. These traits greatly enhance your class abilities (more than a normal trait).
After obtaining all 34 points for your weapon, you will gain access to a "bonus" trait with 20 levels. This Bonus Trait increases damage. This trait is described in more detail in the subsection below.
Reset and redistribute trait points
You can respec/redistribute your traits (by resetting and reassigning points) for a price. A respec costs the same amount of Artifact Power as the next point to invest in your trait tree. For example, let's say you've invested 18 points into your artifact tree and want to reset and reassign them. To do this, you must give as much Artifact Power as is required to purchase the 19th point for the trait tree - 24,000 Artifact Power. This procedure will restore 18 points to you, which you can spend on traits. It should be remembered that you will not restore the Artifact Powers, only points.
Since the cost of respec your artifact weapon is high, it won't be as profitable. And in the end, you will unlock all the traits of your artifact. The order in which you do this doesn't really matter.
Trait Perks
The total number of trait levels you acquire increases the amount of stamina +/- damage dealt (up to the 34th point of your artifact trait tree). Healer and tank specs receive 0.75% + 1% damage dealt for each unlocked trait (25.5% stamina and 34% damage dealt on maxed artifact weapons). Priests of Discipline, as hybrid damage dealers/healers, gain 0.75% stamina and 0.5% damage dealt per trait, resulting in a 25.5% increase in stamina and 17% damage on a fully upgraded artifact weapon. Damage dealers receive 0.75% stamina per trait, which increases stamina by 25.5% on a fully upgraded artifact.
Trait Cost
Below is a table showing the cost of trait points. The amount of artifact Power increases exponentially.

Artifact Relics
A relic is an item whose mechanics are similar to how older metastones worked. When a relic is inserted into an artifact socket, it performs two functions:
- increases the ilvl of the artifact (increases the main and secondary stats);
- adds a bonus to a specific artifact trait.
The artifact has three slots for relics, two of which are available immediately after you receive the weapon. The third slot is initially closed and will open after you complete the Class Hall quest chain.
There are several types of relics and each artifact has a unique combination of slots that are associated with a specific theme. For example, Shadowpriest weapons have two Shadow and one Blood relic slots, while Frostmage weapons have two Ice and one Arcane relic slots. There are ten types of relics in total:
- Arcane Magic;
- Blood;
- Fel;
- Fire;
- Iron;
- Light;
- Life;
- Shadow;
- Storm.
Not all specs may benefit from a particular relic - it all depends on what slots your weapon has. According to quality, relics are divided in the same way as items - unusual, rare and epic. They are given as a reward for completing quests, dropped from mobs in the open world and from bosses in all types of dungeons, from 5ppl to raid and world ones. In addition, relics can be crafted. Most often, quests reward you with relics of unusual and rare quality, which have a chance to randomly upgrade to something of a higher quality, for example, instead of an unusual one you will receive a rare relic. Some crafted relics related to the worlddrop can be BoE and, accordingly, they can be sold at an auction, where a special tab is made for them.
Requirements for relics may vary. Let's say an item with level 670 will require a level above 100, and a relic with level 730 can only be used by a character at least level 105. In general, the ilvl of relics ranges from 670 to 895.
Relics that drop as personal loot guarantee a set of characteristics that correspond to your class and spec.
Relics cannot be taken out and put back in. Similar to gemstones, they are destroyed when removed or replaced.
Each relic has an ilvl. At the start of the expansion it will fluctuate between 670-895. The higher the level of the relic, the more it will increase the level of the artifact. For example, a level 850 relic will upgrade your artifact by 43 levels, while a crafted level 805 relic will upgrade it by 31. Relics dropped from bosses can randomly receive +5 additional units to the possible level of the artifact. Any Titanforged item can increase its level by more than 15 points.
The starting level of the artifact is 750 and this level will increase if you insert relics into the sockets. The maximum possible level of artifact weapons is 918.

Knowledge of an artifact increases the possible amount of Artifact Power (AP) you can gain daily. Increasing the amount of daily AP is only possible after reaching level 110. There you will receive two quests that will allow you to open Orders for Artifact Knowledge in the Class Stronghold. The quests will also tell you about the history of the artifacts - as you progress, you will need books in which this will be revealed.
At the release, one Order will be available, which will be completed within 5 days. However, later this period will be reduced and it will also depend on how far the character has progressed. The cost of completing the order is 500 units of Stronghold resources. In other words, every five days there will be an opportunity to increase Artifact Knowledge by 1 level. There are 25 of these levels in total. Each level will increase the amount of available AP received from different sources. The first level boosts AP by 25%, and at level 25 - 24,000%. It should be noted that stacking items that increase AP is not worth it. You will receive an increase for the level of Knowledge of the artifact that was in effect at the time you received the item. Artifact knowledge will work for all weapons to make leveling easier for offspecs. However, this rule applies only to one character, and not the entire account.
A table indicating how much AP will increase at a certain level of Artifact Knowledge is given below.
Artifact Knowledge Level Bonus to Artifact Power (AP) Artifact Knowledge Level Bonus to Artifact Power (AP) Artifact Knowledge Level Bonus to Artifact Power (AP) Artifact Knowledge Level Bonus to Artifact Power (AP) 1 25% 8 500% 15 2850% 22 14200% 2 50% 9 650% 16 3600% 23 17800% 3 90% 10 850% 17 4550% 24 22300% 4 140% 11 1100% 18 5700% 25 24900% 5 200% 12 1400% 19 7200% 6 275% 13 1780% 20 9000% 7 375% 14 2250% 21 11300% In general, that's all. How to change the appearance of artifacts is described in.
We touched on the mechanics and leveling up of this new type of weapon. In this part we will talk about how to change the appearance of World of Warcraft: Legion artifacts.
Update Patch 7.2. In patch 7.2, new appearances for artifacts were introduced. .
At release it is planned that artifacts will have five different styles or types (the sixth will not be available at the launch of the add-on, most likely it will be released in some patch) and each style will have its own color scheme. There are several paths that will reveal to you these types and variations of the type of artifact. Remember that you can change them in the Artifact Forge in the Class Stronghold.
A few important notes. Remember that you can transmogrify an artifact using another weapon. A certain style of weapon changes its type - for example, for VM hunters, an artifact can be either a bow or a gun. The first five types that will be available at launch are described below:
- classic view: quests related to the Class Stronghold;
- improved view: achievements and quests related to the Class Stronghold, artifact upgrades and archaeology;
- valiant view: PvE progress (5ppl dungeons);
- hardened look: PvP progress (prestige levels);
- hidden view: the path of obtaining varies for each individual spec;
- other types: were discovered by dataminers, but what they can be obtained for is still unknown.
In order to open variations of a certain style, you must first open its “main view” (Main Tint). For example, in order to gain access to the "improved" style branch, you need to complete the Balance of Power quest chain and only then you need to complete all the other achievements necessary to obtain other variations of the style.
Style variations are unlocked on a per-character basis and do not apply to all characters on an account - you will need to repeat achievements on each of them to gain access to the Artifact Weapon Style. The only exception to this rule is the “Glory to the Legion Hero” meta-achievement, which is given for receiving all achievements in 5ppl.
Now let's learn more about how to access the view and its variations.

We present an overview of the capabilities of artifacts in World of Warcraft. In this video we will show you how they can increase the power of your character and how they can be changed and improved.
Once you receive your first artifact, you will unlock a new progression system, as well as a number of new features, such as artifact features.
Artifacts for all specializations unlock a unique active ability and several passive features. To unlock features, you need artifact power, which can be obtained in different ways:
- completing regular/world quests,
- fighting in dungeons,
- in the arenas,
- battlefields and beyond.
You can view an artifact's traits at any time by pressing shift and right-clicking on it in your bag or character stats window. But you will need to return to the class hall to take advantage of the artifact's power.
You can also increase the characteristics and level of the artifact through relics - they are rarer than the power of the artifact, but there are many ways to get them in the game. At first, only two cells will be active, but you can open a third by completing a chain of quests in the class stronghold.
To use a new relic, press shift, right-click on the artifact and place the item in an open cell, and the relic already installed in it will be destroyed.
During your adventures in the game world, you will unlock new colors and even new models for your artifact. Of course, you can use the new transmog system to change the appearance of the artifact.
So we talked about the main features of the artifact weapon system, but that’s not all!
WWII Legion Artifacts
WWII Legion Artifacts is an artifact weapon that will be added to World of Warcraft with the release of the Legion expansion. In this video we will learn what artifact weapons are and how to get them.
To survive the fight against the Legion, you need the most powerful weapons in Azeroth. Each specialization has its own weapon - some artifacts are already familiar to you, while others have appeared in the game recently. Once you've completed the Legion introduction, you'll arrive in .
There you will meet a character who will explain how to get the first artifact for your chosen specialization. You can only get one artifact for now, but don't worry, you'll have the opportunity to get more when you reach level 102.
You'll then be able to complete a unique quest chain that will teach you more about your artifact and the challenges you must complete to obtain it. Returning to your class stronghold with victory, you will unlock the artifact progression system and a number of new features.
We will talk about them in more detail in the review of the capabilities of artifacts.
In this guide we will tell you all about Legion artifacts in World of Warcraft. We will give detailed information about talents and artifact relics, their appearance, power and knowledge of the artifact in WOW.
Artifacts are unique weapons for each specialization added in Legion. The power of such weapons grows as the player progresses through the plot of the add-on.
Note: made some changes to the artifact system. Main: new talents have appeared and new appearances of artifacts have become available. For minor changes, read the guide to patch 7.2 (section about artifacts).
What you need to know about artifacts in WoW
Basic information:
- There is an artifact for each specialization of each class - thus, there are 36 combat artifacts in the Legion. This is an exceptionally powerful weapon.
- The 37th artifact is related to fishing - it is a fishing rod for fishermen.
- To receive the artifact, you need to complete the quest chain for your specialization. As the quests progress, you will learn a lot of information about famous representatives of your class.
- The Artifact is your character's main weapon in the Legion. There is no stronger weapon.
- Artifact Traits/Talents – Improve the abilities of your class.
- Relics are items that can be inserted into an artifact to enhance certain talents and increase the overall level of the item (and, accordingly, its characteristics).
- The power of the artifact grows as the Power of the artifact is gained. This unlocks new available talents and relics.
- Artifact Knowledge is a special system that allows players to quickly obtain artifacts for the second and third specializations.
- All artifacts of your class can be obtained through the campaign in the class stronghold.
- Artifacts have different styles and colors that can be unlocked by performing certain actions.

- Treasure hunt;
- Missions in a class stronghold;
- PvP victories on battlefields and arenas;
- Completing major quests or local tasks;
- Chests for completing a series of local quests (for 4 tasks for one faction);
- Additional objectives and bonus tasks in the open world;
- Drop from rarities, bosses in dungeons and raids of the Legion, world bosses;
- Completing random dungeons on normal and heroic difficulty;
Good video about Artifact Power:
When you receive one of these items, click on it to add Power to the artifact currently equipped on the character.
- If you want to add Artifact Power to a weapon you have in your inventory (an artifact for your other specialization), you first need to equip this artifact, and only then use a consumable item.
- The power of artifacts is calculated separately for each weapon.

Each artifact weapon has one free talent (the very first one), which does not require resources to level up and gives you a powerful class ability. Typically, the ability from the first talent is active and appears on your ability bar, but for some classes and specializations it can be passive.
Relic Effect #1: Item Level Up
Each relic has a certain item level - in beta it ranged from 670 to 895.
- The higher the level of the relic, the more item levels it will add to the artifact.
- For example, Soul Fibril (level 805, craft) will add +31 ilvl to the weapon, and Flickering Spark of Time (level 850, drop in raids) will add +43 ilvl.
- Relics that drop in dungeons, raids, and from world bosses, when dropped, have a certain chance of being upgraded by +5 item levels. Taking into account all difficulty options, the maximum item level for such relics is 895.
- The starting level of all artifacts is 750, and each relic inserted into a socket increases this level.
Source Level Level boost Notes Regular quests and world quests 670-815 +2-33 ilvls Quest rewards scale to the player's level when they turn in the quest. The table in this guide shows the minimum item level for them.
- The relic immediately gives an additional rank and increases it. If it was 0/3, it will become 1/4.
- Relics do not allow you to cheat the talent system: if a relic turns a 0/1 talent into a 1/2, you will still need to level one rank to move further up the talent tree.
- One talent can be maximally upgraded to rank 6/6.

Note:
- The chain for each artifact was created taking into account specialization: healers will need to heal the group, tanks will need to take on monsters, and damage dealers will need to complete standard quests for collecting items / killing monsters.
- You can change your specialization along the chain. That is, you can make a chain for a healer in the DD spec if you kill all the enemies before they destroy your group. However, this will not be the easiest task.
- If you have multiple artifacts, they will be automatically equipped when you change specialization. You cannot equip an artifact that does not match your current specialization.
- Artifacts cannot be destroyed. Remember that each artifact received will always occupy one slot in your inventory.
- Obtaining all artifacts available for your class is rewarded with the achievement Impressive arsenal .
Artifact Knowledge
Artifact Knowledge serves to increase the Artifact Power you gain from items over time.
- Artifact knowledge becomes available at level 110. You will receive two tasks related to completing orders:
- Hidden History - Recover 4 volumes of knowledge scattered across Azeroth.
- Digging through books - complete a work order.
- Once both tasks are completed, you can continue completing orders to obtain Artifact Data, which increases your Artifact Knowledge level.
- At the start of the Legion It takes 5 days to complete one order for Artifact Data. However, the new addition will implement a special system that will count the number of days from the launch of the Legion, and based on this number, reduce the order completion time to 4 days, 3 days, and so on.
- This system is designed for alts and those who will start playing long after the release date of Legion.
- Each order for Notes on Legion Artifacts will cost 500 Order Resources (read Where to get class Order Resources in Legion).
1.1. Main color: available by default.
1.2 Color #2: Bring back one of the Pillars of Creation.
You can get one Pillar of Creation through the quest chain in each of the Legion locations. Below is a list of pillars, the final tasks for obtaining them and the corresponding locations:
Aegis of Aggramar Securing the Aegis Stormheim Hammer of Khaz'goroth Hammer of Khaz'goroth Highmountain Tear of Elune Tears of Elune, Valshara Fight in Style: Improved Look . 2.1. Home Color: Complete the campaign in a Class Hall.
In fact, you need to get the achievement Hardened for battle .
2.2. Color #2: Unlock all Artifact Talents.
5.2. Color #2: Complete 100 dungeons using a hidden artifact appearance option.

- Hunter's Swiftness, Feral Druid: Ashhide's claws are filled with the blood of beasts, providing a 3% increase in movement speed. The effect dissipates when the druid enters combat.
- Valkyra's Gaze, Fury Var: If the warrior kills an enemy within 8 seconds of the effect triggering, he will restore 50% of his health.
- Ashbringer, Retro Paladin: There is a chance that the Ashbringer will instantly kill a small demon or undead near the character.
- Summon Eagles, Hunter: When a hunter's health drops below 40%, an eagle comes to his aid for 10 seconds; fires no more than once every three minutes.
Some artifacts can talk to their owners (for example, Aluneth for the arcane mage or the Skull of Man'ari for the warlock), and will often whisper something during adventures around the world.
Video of the hidden effect Valkyra's Gaze (furi var):
Cosmetic effects
There are also some cosmetic effects associated with artifacts in the game:
- Paladins can see demons in Dalaran using Revealing Light.
- Air elementals in Stormheim are friendly to Elemental shamans.
- Some classes have a special animation for the Away status (Frost DK, Druids, and Healing Shamans).
- Some NPCs react to a character with an artifact.
10. How long will it take to max out the first artifact?
It will take several months to level up all 34 ranks of artifact talents in the WWII Legion. The developers did not provide a more precise figure.
We can't wait to hear your opinion on the introduction of weapons such as artifacts in the Legion - we look forward to your feedback in the comments!
