Blood is a specialization that relies on strong self-healing. Such tanks usually take more damage and neutralize it with Death Strike, Bone Shield and other effects. This guide describes the features of DC Tanks, as well as general tactics regarding tanking. If you are interested in details about the role itself, read our.

List of changes to the guide 12/16/2017:

  • Ancient Healing Potion has been changed to Astral Healing Potion.
  • Netherlight Crucible: Updated talent priority.
  • Equipment: Updated recommendations for set bonuses and legendary items.
  • Rotation: Bloodsucker has been added to the rotation. Added mention of the effect of the T21 bonus on the use of Dancing Rune Weapons.
  • Enchantments, Food and Consumables: Updated recommendations for choosing stones (only for secondary characteristics).
  • Talents: Recommendations for choosing talents in tiers 1 and 4 have been updated, taking into account bonuses from T21.
  • Brief guide: Bloodsucker has been added to the rotation.

The Blood Death Knight Guide is relevant for World of Warcraft Legion 7.3. Here's everything you need to know to effectively complete Mythic Expanded raids and dungeons.

Changes in patch 7.3

  • There are no significant changes.

Changes in patch 7.2.5

  • The Tier 2 talent Devouring Souls has given way to the Heart of Ice talent.
  • Many abilities and talents (in particular, Death and Decay and Strike to the Heart) have been significantly enhanced.
  • New legendary items have appeared in the game, Soul of the Lord of Death and Corruption of the Soul Flayer.

Changes in patch 7.2

  • Artifact talents have been reworked. By investing 35 points in development, the player gains access to new talents (Fortitude of the Ebon Blade, Carrion Feast, Vampiric Aura, Soul Drinker and Legion's Doom Army Coherence). An additional (fourth) rank has been added to all old talents.
  • A new legendary item has been added to the game, Retu's Endless Courage.

Changes to Blood DK in patch 7.1.5:

  • Capturing runes reduces damage taken by 40% (instead of 25%).
  • Bone Shield is only absorbed by melee attacks.
  • Absorption from Vampire's Blood is 30% more effective.
  • Many talents have been slightly buffed, and Purgatory has been nerfed.

1. Changes to DK Tank in Legion

Compared to Warlords of Draenor, the Blood specialization has changed insignificantly, but there are still some differences:

  • Presence of Ice, Presence of Blood, and Presence of Unholy have been removed from the game.
  • Resolve has been removed from the game.
  • The rune system has been greatly simplified. Now all runes belong to the same type, each rune is recharged individually.
  • Outbreak, Chill, Army of the Dead, and Soul Reaper have all disappeared from the game.
  • Bone Shield is now applied automatically when using the new Spine Shatter ability.
  • Death Strike now costs Runic Power and is the only way to spend this resource.

2. Brief guide

This section is intended for those who are just starting to play as a death knight, do not have the goal of going to Mythic raids, or are simply looking to simplify their playstyle as much as possible and do not want to constantly remember to prioritize and monitor various effects.

Basics

Death Knights with the Blood specialization rely on self-healing more than all other tanks. They also take more damage, but their abilities make up for it.

Their main goal in combat is to accumulate as much runic power as possible, and then spend it on Death Strike in order to heal themselves and gain a shield from Mastery: Blood Shield).

Talent Selection

The choice of talents in this build is dictated by their ease of use. In terms of survivability, this build is slightly inferior to the optimal one, and the outgoing damage does not suffer too much.

  • Level 56: Bloodsucker
  • Level 57: Rapid Decomposition
  • Level 58: Crypt
  • Level 60: Red Thirst
  • Level 75: March of the Damned
  • Level 90: Unholy Bulwark
  • Level 100: Purgatory

Characteristics

Currently, the priority secondary stats for the Blood specialization are:

  1. Speed
  2. Versatility
  3. Mastery
  4. Critical hit

Basic Rotation

The basic rotation (both single and multi-target) for a Blood Death Knight is based on the following list of priorities:

  1. Use Spine Shatter if Bone Shield is about to expire.
  2. Use Blood Boil if any nearby enemies do not have Blood Plague on them.
  3. Use Death Strike if your health level has dropped to a critical level or after a strong blow.
  4. Use Death and Decay when Scarlet Scourge is triggered.
  5. Use Death Strike, being careful not to accumulate maximum runic power.
  6. Use Bloodsucker.
  7. Use Spine Shatter if you have 6 or fewer Bone Shield effects.
  8. Use Death and Decay when you have 3 or more runes.
  9. Use Heart Strike when you have 3 or more runes, or if you need to quickly accumulate runic power for Death Strike.
    • Always leave resources in reserve to use Spine Shatter to maintain Bone Shield (if you have the Crypt talent, the number of shield effects should not fall below 5).
  10. Use Wither (artifact ability).
  11. Use Blood Boil.

Spells for active damage absorption and protective cooldowns

The Death Knight with the Blood specialization has 2 active damage absorption spells that help him survive in battle. Both are listed in the above rotation.

3.2. Basic Abilities

These abilities always remain the same, regardless of the choice of talents.

Netherlight Crucible

The Netherlight Crucible works very simply. You can choose one of two development paths (Light or Darkness) and follow it to the talent that is considered the best in terms of artifact development.

All tier 2 talents in the Crucible of Netherlight are very strong and are valued even more than tier 3 talents. From a defensive standpoint, the best talent in current content is Shadow Master.

  • If you have the bonus from 2T21, use Dancing Rune Weapon when you are actively tanking the boss and it will help you smooth out the incoming damage.
  • If you have the bonus from 3T21, spend your resources efficiently during Dancing Rune Weapon - avoid running out of runes and runic power. While Dancing Rune Weapon is active, don't be afraid to spend your Heart Strike and Death Strike runes more heavily than usual.

9.3.3. Vampire blood

Due to the lack of effects that reduce incoming damage, death knights do not cope well with enemy abilities that take into account the “pure” amount of damage received (without self-healing or absorption). An example is Elerethe Wild Hind and her Web of Pain. In this case, Immutability of Ice can significantly simplify the life of the raid.

9.3.5. Tier 6 talents

10. Priority of characteristics for DK Tank

The stat priority for a Blood death knight depends on whether he is more interested in survivability or increased damage output.

Overall, Haste and Versatility are the best stats for a Blood Death Knight. At a very high level of speed, the value of this characteristic decreases, and versatility, on the contrary, increases in price. However, there is no limit at which speed becomes completely useless. So, you shouldn't sacrifice item level (and therefore stamina, strength, and armor) for speed. Any equipment that gives 10 or more units. item level will be a noticeable improvement for you. If you have room for optimization, consider the following priority lists:

Survival

  1. Speed
  2. Versatility
  3. Mastery
  4. Critical hit

Maximum Damage

  1. Speed
  2. Critical hit
  3. Versatility
  4. Mastery
  1. Speed
  2. Versatility
  3. Critical hit
  4. Mastery

Force- this is the primary characteristic. When changing items of equipment, pay attention first of all to strength indicators. Strength increases the effectiveness of self-healing and the attack power on which ability damage is based, and also increases the chance of dodging hits.

Mastery Increases the strength of shields from Mastery: Blood Shield. It reduces it and smoothes out the damage received.

Versatility increases damage dealt and healing, and reduces incoming damage.

Speed increases the speed of attack and replenishment of runes, i.e. provides additional resources for more frequent use of abilities.

Most bosses have abilities that cannot be dodged or otherwise avoided. In addition, you will need a certain amount of health so that the healers have time to heal you before the boss makes the next (deadly) attack. Thus, there is an acceptable minimum endurance indicator. This indicator is always present on pieces of equipment, so stones for endurance should not be used. (cheaper), but it is worth remembering that stones restore more health.

Additionally, you'll benefit from buff runes that work in both raids and Mythic dungeons. Corrupted Augment Rune is a one-time (cheap) option. Lightforged Enhancement Rune - reusable option, costs 50,000 gold, requires Exalted with Army of Light.

This material opens a series of postings about the type of artifact weapons in World of Warcraft: Legion for each individual class and spec. In the first issue, we'll look at what the developers offered the death knights.

In my subjective opinion, the ancholics received the best weapons. FDK's swords are not bad, but the blood's are not so smooth. However, all markers have different tastes and colors. From this material you will learn for what feats you will get access to this or that type of artifact weapon, including hidden ones. For those who are interested in the details, read. There is information about the mechanics and how they are pumped up in.

Only the most experienced heroes of Azeroth can face the invasion of the Burning Legion, armed with legendary artifacts. The power of this magnificent weapon grows along with yours. You yourself determine its properties, appearance, sounds and behavior in battle. Transform your artifact into the perfect weapon of war and lead your faction in these trying times!

The strength of a death knight lies in his weapons. Having become one of the greatest representatives of this class, you have earned the right to possess a weapon that is endowed not only with power, but also with its own name.

Knights of Darkness

Death Knights can choose one of three specializations: Blood, Frost, or Unholy. The uniqueness of each of them is reflected in the choice of artifact weapons.

  • Death Knights with the Blood specialization rely on the ax in combat Cursed Devourer possessing unheard of power. Its blade is capable of cutting not only the flesh of enemies, but also their souls. The owner of such an ax gains power over death itself.
  • Frost Death Knights must possess an unyielding will, capable of overpowering even the will of Frostmourne debris. Inside the deadly blades that bear names Herald of Cold And Frost Reaper, there is enormous power, but they crave more and more new power.
  • Death Knights with the Unholy specialization are particularly brutal in combat. Intimidating Blade Apocalypse brings with it death and the pernicious spirit of the most terrible diseases. This sword leaves behind only sorrow and shattered hopes.

Each artifact is the embodiment of the power of the death knight who owns it. There is power in names - remember them, because this legendary weapon will become your faithful assistant in the battle against an enemy more dangerous than you have ever met.

Blood - Cursed Devourer

This ancient Legion ax was forged from a metal capable of draining life energy. Inside is the cursed soul of the creator of the axe, which is overcome by an insatiable hunger. For more than a thousand years, the insidious mo'arg, with the help of this weapon, suppressed any attempts at rebellion and absorbed the life force of the Legion's enemies. Over time, the ax endowed its owner with incredible power.

Ice - Herald of Frost and Frostreaper (Blades of the Fallen Prince)

The Runeblade Frostmourne was forged by the Burning Legion to bring chaos to Azeroth, and was shattered by the Ashbringer at Icecrown Citadel. At that moment, countless souls were freed, but many of them were still imprisoned. Frostmourne Debris can be reforged and given new properties, making them even more powerful. To do this, you need to subjugate the will of the souls that are still in icy captivity.

Unholy - Apocalypse

Forged by the vampire demons the Nathrezim, this ancient sword brings suffering, doom and pestilence. This sword fell into extreme disrepute after it fell into the hands of the mage guard of Tirisfal, who was never able to take control of its destructive power. Later, these weapons went to the Dark Riders - the gloomy minions of Medivh, the infamous guardian of Tirisfal. They hid the sword in the catacombs under its tower - Karazhan.

The death knight in the frost tree (DD) is a damage dealer whose main talent tree is ice, and the character himself is armed with two slow one-handed weapons. With the right build and rotation, Frost DK is capable of outperforming many of its competitors in terms of DPS.

1. Characteristics

  1. Accuracy - as for many damage dealers, the accuracy cap is very important for frost DK and amounts to 8%, however, we take 3% from talents, so there will only be 5% left to collect, which will be easy thanks to gear
  2. Mastery - ideally we aim for 26% so that the boss does not evade your attacks
  3. Armor Penetration Rating or ArP - Aim for 90%
  4. Critical hit - for frost DK 40% is enough, we can easily get it from gear, so you shouldn’t put stones on crit
  5. Strength - the more the better, but it is advisable to try to exceed 2k

Next we press Destruction -> Bloody Strike -> Pestilence, Ice Strike several times. At this moment, all your CD is updated and we begin to rotate the rotation in a circle.

Also, the rotation of Frost DK in PvE can be simplified a little. At the same time, its effectiveness is not lost at all. As soon as the rotation is updated after applying Pestilence, we immediately press Ice Strike -> Destruction -> Pestilence. As soon as the enemy’s debuffs are updated, use Bloody Strike. CD can be updated periodically using our Runic Weapon Enhancement. As a result, this provides an opportunity to add two Obliterate strikes to the rotation.

Important!

  1. Once you learn how to build a continuous cycle of spells in your rotation, you will get the maximum output from your abilities and build.
  2. Rotation can fail for only one reason - a bad ping, since often the disease is updated exactly in the second after it disappears from the enemy

Build 2:

This build does not have rotation; rather, there is a priority of strikes. Indestructible armor is always pressed with Blood Tap (the sequence of pressing is determined by the presence or absence of death runes). Strengthening runic weapons is given, if there is a scorpion, under the scorpion proc, after updating diseases (the first rune of death), a bloody blow (the second rune of death) two Destruction. Thus, you will give five Destruction in a row at once, even with a short duration of illnesses, and will be able not to lose them.

The priorities look like this:

  1. Maintenance of diseases. Apply Icy Touch, then plague strike, update diseases with pestilence (This order is due to the Tundra Stalker talent, which increases all damage by 15% to targets infected with Chill).
  2. If your RP (Rune Power) is 130 or close to this mark, then Ice Strike. In other cases - destruction.
  3. Obliterate/Ice Strike respectively.
  4. Howling wind. Use for AoE, but only when proced simultaneously with Killing Machine. Then his priority is #1. Without the proc of a killing machine and a solo target, he stands in his rightful 4th place.
  5. If you have two items from the tier 9 set or four items from the tier 10 set, you can use Blood Strike to maintain buffs. Otherwise, it is squeezed into the very last place.
  6. Death and Decay. Use it on at least 4 targets if they stand in the puddle for at least 8 seconds. In other cases, the spell is too expensive in terms of resources. Don't forget that all your abilities deal more damage to enemies infected with Chill.
  7. Blood boiling. The ability is not very useful, but if we don’t need bloody runes to update the disease, then if there are diseases dispersed in AoE and 4 targets around, we can replace the bloody strike with them.
  8. The face of death . There may be theoretical situations where this spell is useful, but you'll save a lot of effort by simply removing it from the panel.

4. Talents

Build 1:

The first thing worth noting here is that the build for the Death Knight will be completely tailored to the armor penetration rating. The boss will not be saved by any armor, since in fact there will be no armor for you and you will be beating living meat. It is interesting that the mechanics of frost DK are slightly different from other classes, since all the talents are tailored specifically to reducing all kinds of mods on the target. The rotation described above is tailored specifically for this build.

Build 2:

For a weakly equipped character who doesn't have 4 pieces of t10, it's best to go with a 15/56/0 build, since a kill without a lot of ArP won't outperform Ice Strike percentage-wise (but will still do more damage without procing Killing Machine !), and with a low crit rate, Killing Machine and Grim Resolve can compensate a little for this. In addition, this build is much easier to rotate. Or rather, there isn’t even any rotation in it as such.

In Ice, all DPS talents are taken, excluding Mortal Cold, because giving one talent for one crit every two minutes is too expensive. In the blood, take Butcher for a small additional generation of runes and Maleficence for the crit Destruction. In the second tier, since we use one-handed weapons, we take Bladed armor. Well, in the third tier we pump up Grim Resolve as compensation for the low amount of crit from equipment.

5. Symbols

5. Gameplay and rotations

Priorities of Ankholi DK:

Hit → Strength → Armor. → Haste → Crit → Expertise → Attack Power → Agility

Priorities of Unholy DK with the Frost branch:

Hit → Strength → Haste → Armor. → Crit → Expertise → Attack Power → Agility

Standard Rotation:

Rotation with Harvest:

Army of the Dead - used a few seconds before the start of the battle or when changing phases. Using it while your combo is running will result in DPS loss and combo break. The summon copies your Hit, Attack Power and Haste at the moment of summoning - remember this.

Summon Gargoyle - Also used when you have buffs and procs because it copies stats. You cannot immediately summon him when the fight starts, he will require 60 Runic Energy. You can start the fight with Unholy Presence, quickly gain Rune Power, then summon Gargoyle, and only then return to Bloody Presence. This is done because our gargoyle remembers Haste from Unholy Presence, but not damage from Blood Presence.

Don't forget about your pet. It does a lot of damage.

6. Addons

Addons improve your gaming experience. It is necessary to use addons as they play a vital role in your game, be it a raid, arena or auction.
