INTRODUCTION

Exactly two years along with the real and virtual game worlds, there is one of the fine lines in which both of these worlds are quite harmoniously mixed. Such facets are called "augmented" or "augmented" reality (augmented reality), meaning that for visible things is something much more. So you installed the application - and the smartphone or tablet in your hand turned into a special device - a “scanner”. Looking through it at the graffiti on the wall or at the urban sculpture, you will see the energy oozing from them, called "exomatter". Perhaps next to you you will see (not through the device, but with your own eyes) a person looking at his smartphone, then at you. “Blue or green?” he thinks. Or maybe you will find yourself in a huge field of one of two colors that covered the whole city ... Yes, baby, this is Ingress.

To put it briefly and beautifully, Ingress is a semi-real MMORPG in the world of smartphones and tablets. It appeared as a fusion of city quests, children's team competitions like "Cossack robbers", world conspiracy theory, fantastic dystopias and gambling. It took root, becoming a whole culture, dividing the inhabitants of the globe into two factions, but at the same time rallying them for one goal - endlessly playing and fighting. It is safe and not without exaggeration to say that Ingress is more than just a game. This is the real life style.

PLOT

Imagine that when the CERN experiment was launched at the Large Hadron Collider, something happened that was not expected - some interdimensional energy was released, which was immediately dubbed Exotic Matter, in our opinion - exomatter or "ExM". This energy began to accumulate, as it turned out, in places of manifestation of art or science, i.e. evidence of human development: monuments, museums, libraries, even post offices. Such XM clusters came to be called “ portals“. And not just like that - it turned out that the portals allow representatives of an alien race - the Shapers - to pass into our world. They say that it was the Shapers who influenced the development of mankind: they controlled the minds of such prominent people as Mendeleev or Mozart (not in vain, many ideas came to them “in a dream”), they moved progress further and further, pursuing only one known goal. Now the Shapers have decided that the world is ready to take it to the next level. But people have their own opinion on this matter, or rather even two.

Enlightened ( Enlightened) , the "Green" faction - believe that the Shapers should continue to move the progress of mankind, therefore they help them. There are many arguments that people are always afraid of the new, but it brings good. Didn't aliens help the most ancient people build the pyramids or the first observatories? Or maybe the Shapers created people at all? ..
Resistance ( Resistance) , the “Blue” faction - are convinced that the Shapers will turn people into developed, but not having individual consciousness, creatures. They believe that the goal of the aliens is to create an army of people with a collective mind, like ants. The agents of the Resistance are sure that humanity will cope with its progress and art on its own.

GAMEPLAY

In fact, the gameplay of both factions is no different.

Everything looks like this:

1. You need to have time to certain time checkpoints to earn more points than the enemy faction.

2. To earn points, you need to create fields by connecting three portals of the same color (of your chosen faction).

3. To connect portals, you need to capture them correctly.

Main gameplay actions:
Portal hack ( hack, "hack") - carried out in relation to the portal of any faction, and even neutral ones, i.e. - not captured. The only purpose of the "hack" is to "farm" items. To "hack" the portal, you need to be in the range of the scanner, marked with a yellow circle. When you hack someone else's portal, you also get +100 XP for it. The higher the level of the portal, the higher the level and the items that can be obtained from it, but they will not drop higher than your level + one more on top.
The portals have cooldown- this is usually 5 minutes if special items are not installed on it (you can read about such items, MODs, later). During this time, the portal “cools down” and it is impossible to hack it.
Important hack! If you do not just tap, but hold down the button hack, a mini-game for memorizing glyphs will open. Depending on the level of the portals, you will be asked to repeat from one to five glyphs, which may hide mysterious messages - probably from the Shapers themselves. Properly repeated glyphs get you bonus items!

Installation of resonators, deployment of the portal (deploy) - for the portal to function at full capacity, 8 resonators must be installed on it. Resonators are just such gizmos, without the full amount of which the portal cannot be connected to other portals. Of course, you can only deploy a neutral portal (this is called capture portal), or add resonators to your own, in which there are less than 8. Resonators of the 1st level for one person can put all 8 on the portal, 2nd, 3rd and 4th - four each, 5th and 6 th by 2, but the coolest “cuts” are 7 and 8, one player can bet only one piece each. This is because Ingress is a team game. The first and last resonators give the most XP. If you went to swing with a friend, and you don't have many resonators in your inventory, then ask him to let you put the first and last ones (unless he himself needs to swing - be tolerant! :))
Important hack!- it is desirable to deploy the portal at the maximum distance. The farther you are from the portal, the further your resonators will be installed, and the more difficult it will be for the enemy to blow them up (more on that later). When deploying the portal, stand so that it is at the very edge of your yellow circle.
You can also replace weak resonators with stronger ones, i.e. higher level.
If you want more nerdiness, then.

Link, connection of portals (link) - the main goal of the game is not to capture portals, but to connect them into filled triangles ( control field ). To connect two portals to each other, you need to stand at an accessible distance from one portal and have key from the one you want to pair it with. Portal Keys drop when hacked with approximately 80% chance. You will see the link button in the portal profile, in the center of the resonator diagram. Naturally, it becomes active only when all 8 pieces are installed. The game may prompt you to link all reachable portals for which you have keys, but link wisely. The link must not cross other links, so it's not a good idea to connect two portals across the city unless you plan to complete the field. Otherwise, you will spoil the game for others (this is also called “shitlink”). Usually, if you have the key to the portal, say, “Fountain of the sun”, then hacking this fountain a second time, the key will not fall out. But if you want to link two portals near you to the “Fountain”, and thereby create a field, that is another life hack: standing near the fountain, drop the key (Drop button in the key window), hack the portal again, and when you get the second key, pick up the one you threw away. Voila! Now you can link 2 portals to the "Fountain of the Sun" without running back and forth! You are gorgeous!

Recharging resonators (rechaj, recharge) - is needed to maintain the vital activity of the resonators, and hence the portals. Resonators consume exactly 25% of the charge per day, in addition, their charge is destroyed by enemy attacks. You can charge both a pack of resonators, and each one individually - naturally, you spend XM from your “health” scale for this. It even gives a bit of experience, so necessary for beginners. To recharge a portal, you need to stand within its radius, but you can recharge portals from a distance if you have the keys to them. True, the further away the target is from you, the more XM consumption will be.
And finally, the most fun.

Attacking enemy portals! I do not advise, of course, to beat portals at the first levels - except perhaps in the company of strong players, that is, to finish off enemy resonators to gain experience. Everything is simple here - the higher your level, the higher the level of bombs that you can use (Xmp Burster, in the common people “boosters”). Just go to inventory, select "booster" and press fire. And now very important life hack: on the screen where you see the portals, and at the bottom scrolling through the boosters in your inventory, hold down the Fire button. You will see the exomatter seething around you, narrowing and expanding the ring. So, when it narrowed as much as possible, release the button. This makes it possible to increase the booster's attack power by up to +20%.

You can see all the current world portals, links and fields here at this link. This function is not available on mobile devices, therefore, on long-range raids, it is good to take a compact ultrabook with you in your bag. the rest you will learn along the way - about achievements, about events, and so on. The main thing in Ingress is to play in a team, which you can find in COMM or by inviting friends. In a team, you can create real masterpieces from the fields, walk around the city at night and travel in a crowd to neighboring cities to exchange keys. There are also many romantic stories about players in Ingress - especially interesting are cases of love relationships between representatives of different factions :)

Some terminology and jargon of the Russian-speaking Ingress:
Farm- a large group of portals in one place. It is called so because people go there to hack and collect items. The most valuable, of course, are the "eighth farms" - there are the most powerful portals.
Rez- resonator.
Boost, booster - Xmp Burster . “Vadik, are you going to the raid? Not? Well, at least throw the boosts out the window.
Uporin- the mood to play Ingress, for example, until 3:00 am or break loose and go to another city to link.
Homemade- portals that can be reached from the house.
Upnut- raise the level of the portal by delivering high resonators to it. “Eights, give me homework if you pass by.”
flip- recolor the portal with a virus (read about this another time!)
Govnolink- ill-conceived linking, which spoils the subsequent tactical game. #I'm linking like a fool
Zelenka- a derogatory term for enlight resists.
Blue- a derogatory term for resists enlights.
Since Ingress was released on Apple devices a few months ago, there has been a lot of fresh blood in the game. Namely, today it is all the more good to start playing - until the 15th there is an event in honor of the two-year anniversary of the game, during which for each action you are given 2 times more experience.

In the next article I will tell you how the Kiev Enlight lives, how we met Lina Molotova in Moscow, and in general about how the girls lived to see such a life.
Whichever faction you choose, we'd love to have you as an agent for the Niantic Project! Let the game begin!

and long live the Enlightment!

He's "hacking". To play, you need to constantly replenish your arsenal. To do this, you need to "hack" the portals. Don't worry about "hacking" - you won't have to break into locked rooms or "red-eye" in front of the monitor - just press the "Hack" button. This is the simplest yet most important part of the game.

Find a portal

Found? Great, now click on it with a long tap. Swipe your finger on the "Hack" button and you'll get a few things - they'll be shown at the bottom.

And if you swipe to "Hack no key", then you will also get some resources, but without the key to the portal (a very useful feature to save time on the subsequent recycle of hundreds of unnecessary keys after short-term "business trips"). What are keys for?

Portal levels

Portals come in different levels - from 1st to 8th. The level of the portal is considered as the arithmetic average of the levels of all resonators on it, including the missing ones, which are considered as 0, rounded down. The level of the portal is directly related to what level of equipment you will receive from it.

For example, a tier 3 portal will drop mostly (but not exclusively) tier 3 items. However, if your level is 4, then even the portals of the eighth level will, with rare exceptions, "give" you things of the fifth or third levels, and not the fourth.

Hacking with glyphs

If you hold down the "Hack" button for a while, a "memorize and repeat" mini-game will appear. The more of the shown figures - glyphs - you repeat, the greater the bonus to the usual number of things you will receive.

But, for example, you have a key to portal A. And you glyph it and glyph it and collect the keys for an important matter. In order not to drop the key to the ground every time or hide it in a capsule, you can do the following:

To do this, you need to draw the glyph "More", and, voila, the key will fall.
- Or the "Less" glyph, which will help you complete the hack without dropping the key.

You will have about 2 seconds to enter the "More"/"Less" glyph before the base glyphs come up.

Also, not so long ago, a medal for glyphs was introduced - Translator - you hack a portal with glyphs, draw the whole combination without errors and you are awarded a certain number of points. Points depend on the level of the portal. If you make a mistake in one glyph, you yourself understand, you will not get a single point. And SPEED BONUS does not play any role for the medal.

Portal LevelGlyphsPoint Earned
0 1 1
1 1 1
2 2 2
3 3 4
4 3 4
5 3 4
6 4 8
7 4 8
8 5 15

As can be seen from the table, it is most profitable for a player of 8+ levels to glyph portals of the eighth level - 15 points in credit for the correct combination. =)

And there are also such cool glyphs that can slow down the display speed or, conversely, increase it: COMPLEX - increase, SIMPLE - slow down. They are entered after More/Less.

When glyph-hacking the L8 portal using COMPLEX, you save almost 7 seconds of time, and when using SIMPLE - almost 6 seconds longer!

Starting from level 7 (and sometimes even earlier), Ingress agents begin to lack inventory (mods, boosters, ultra-strike) and glyphs come to the rescue

Ingress glyphs are mysterious characters that have their own style and name (and sometimes even several names).

An example of the results of a level 6 or 7 portal hack - you need to enter 4 glyphs.

Chips when hacking portals with glyphs:

1. Enter all symbols correctly, then you will get more bonus and points for Translator medal

2. Input speed - it also gives a plus to the bonus, but the main point 1 is otherwise one mistake and it’s not the same (although it will still add more than without a glyph at all).

3. An incorrectly entered glyph can be canceled and redrawn (this button was introduced not so long ago, very convenient)

4. From the chips - if you suddenly stuck a symbol or thought or distracted you, then if you are within the reach of the portal it is better to repeat the hack - to do this, simply lock the screen with the button and then unlock it and the hack will be interrupted and will allow you to repeat the hack again without a waiting period.

5. Glyphs have names and these words-names are assembled into meaningful sentences: for example, the combination shapers - past - present - future.

6. Based on paragraph 5, it makes sense to remember the original names of the glyphs (preferably in English, if you do not know English, then you can listen to the pronunciation and learn the words or at least the Russian translation of the names), in any case, it will be easier to enter and it will work better.

7. There are tables with glyphs - you can print and learn a little.

8. You can play glyph emulators if you don't have home portals handy (I didn't really like this method, but it's also good)

9. There are sites with lessons on glyphs, I liked this one

Have a good farm on the farm, who has not taken it yet, take 8 lv

How to level up in Ingress

We already summed up in our introductory article about Ingress that the level in the game decides a lot. A newcomer cannot oppose anything to strong players of another faction. Surely, you will want to make a meaningful contribution to the game as soon as possible, and not just wander aimlessly around the portals.

The faster you level up in Ingress, the more interesting the game will be for you. Take advantage of several pumping methods and start having fun!

Basic about levels in Ingress

Ingress has 16 levels. From 1 to 8, it becomes possible to use new items, such as resonators and weapons. From 8 to 16, only the maximum mana pool and the recharging range of the portals change (even at level 2, the range exceeds the size of areas in Ukraine).

That is, the most important thing is to pump up to level 8. You can use any XMP boosters, and even recolor any portal with a virus.

The amount of experience that you need to earn for each level grows non-linearly. With each level you have to get more and more experience. For example, to go from level 2 to 3, you need 7 times more AP than to go from 1 to 2.

To move to the next levels after 8, you still need to earn a certain number of medals (shown in the picture above). They are given for various achievements: recharging the resonators, the distance traveled, the destruction of portals, etc. As the game progresses, they gradually appear.

For what in Ingress they give AP (experience)

For almost any action in Ingress, experience is given. The maximum increase in AP is achieved by actively destroying fields and links and building your own in their place.

Hakaya with glyphs, you earn much more experience. Experience is given for each glyph you guessed (50 AP each), for guessing all the glyphs, and for speed.

Pumping from 1 to 4 levels

Players of initial levels (up to 5th) are practically not able to actively participate in destruction. To destroy a level 5 portal (the maximum such portal can be created by one player from level 8 and above), you will have to spend almost your entire arsenal. And if the portal is protected by shields, then the situation is aggravated even more.

There are only two good ways to get started.

First way: follow other players of your faction and link portals after them. You can also capture gray portals and use them in linking. High-level friends can help you level up by breaking the enemy's net and leaving field building to you.

Second way: hack high-level portals with glyphs, visit farms. To upgrade from level 1 to level 5, you only need to hack a level 8 enemy portal 300 times and guess the glyphs.

Using the second method, you will get to level 5 with a huge number of items and you will be able to act very actively. On the other hand, high-level portals hurt when hacked, which is very difficult for beginners with low mana.

It will be optimal to combine the two methods. If you play every day, then reaching level 5 is realistic in 1-2 weeks.

Destruction of the central portals of the enemy network

After reaching level 5, you can go hunting for enemy portals. It makes sense to destroy the center points, from which many links and fields depart. Such portals, of course, often have several defensive mods installed, and they can also be recharged, so it's worth considering the rationality of the attack. It is better to come with friends and at unexpected times. In any case, calculate the ratio of weapons spent to experience gained.

You don't have to focus on super cool portals with 10 links of them. Sometimes it's more efficient to break 5 portals easier.

Although, according to our observations (and we play together), after reaching level 7, you can easily destroy even the coolest enemy portals.

Creation of a dense network of their portals

Most experience can be gained by creating zones of control. In place of the destroyed enemy portals, you need to build the densest possible grid. For pumping, it is worth making more triangles, and not striving to close huge areas.

This option is especially good if you play on the winning side.

To get the most out of it, try creating fields within fields. The picture shows how this is done. Links can only be thrown from the corners of the outer triangle inward, but not vice versa. You can calculate the most efficient coverage method using a special service.

Creating an asterisk

If you play alone, it's not easy to build dense grids, because you will need to collect a lot of portal keys. As you know, the keys fall out with only a 50% probability, and hacking the portal is allowed once every 5 minutes. Therefore, for a single player game, the creation of an "asterisk" is optimal - a portal into which many links come from other portals around.

To create a "star" you need to prepare in advance, collect more keys from the central portal. It would be nice to have a portal near the house ("domashka") or near the place where you hang out.

In such a place, you need to hack the portal and at the same time request an additional key (it's just that the portal gives the key just once).

The request for an additional key goes like this:

1. Press the glyph hack
2. Enter the special glyph "MORE", before the glyphs arrived

When the required number of keys is collected, you can walk around and throw links from the current portal to the central one, as well as to the previous one. The result should be something similar to an asterisk or a flower.

This option is not the most successful from a strategic point of view: the enemy can destroy the center of the "asterisk" and get a lot of experience at once. But for pumping into Ingress alone, this is acceptable.

Active farming with glyphs

For simple farming in Ingress, it is also easy to get a lot of experience. For example, hacking a level 8 enemy portal can net approximately 500 AP. Therefore, never neglect this opportunity.

For farming, you need to have a portal or several in a convenient place (accessible from home or work).

This is a screenshot from the Ingress map, where the farm is located in Chernivtsi.

For such a portal, the level is very important, so ask your friends to help you build a "homework". For greater safety of the portal, you can repaint it with a virus in the color of the enemy, and ask your comrades-in-arms not to touch it.

In the "homework" it is worth installing a multihack and strong shields in order to have time to recharge and deploy, if anything.

If for the sake of pumping and effective farming you are willing to sacrifice the fun of the game, then you can create entire farms and go from portal to portal, monotonously hacking them. In such portals, a radiator can be useful. The picture shows an example of a farm in Chernivtsi, on Prospekt.

These are all the ways to level up in Ingress that we have found and use. If you know others, then tell us in the comments - it will be interesting to read.
