Mtg hour of destruction. The hour of destruction. How we went to the presentation of the new Magic: The Gathering set. Review of red cards in the limited edition “Hour of Destruction”

How cards are rated:

1 - Absolutely unusable card. An endangered species, but sometimes still found.
2 - Conditionally suitable card. You can play, but if you have the opportunity, it’s better not to.
3 - Strong average deck fill. It’s boldly placed in the deck, but doesn’t cause much excitement.
4 - Strong stuff. For the sake of such, in drafts they go to one color or another, but not the “bomb”.
5 - The beauty and pride of your future deck. "Bomb".

Review of black cards in the limited edition “Hour of Destruction”

Damned Horde

3+ Even if not in a zombie themed deck, this is a very nice card. The zombie itself has Embalming and Immortalization.
If the opponent is not very much on top, then the Horde will cause trouble.

Eternal Amat

Suffering 3 (Whenever this creature becomes blocked, the defending player loses 3 life.)
Whenever your opponent casts a spell, put a -1/-1 counter on Eternal Amat.
Whenever Eternal Amat deals combat damage to a player, remove all -1/-1 counters from it.

4 A 5/5 creature for 3 mana, and even with Suffering, is definitely a danger. Theoretically, a demon can be tortured without allowing him to remove the tokens, but this will require a lot of fuss and suffering.
Even in two turns it is difficult to cast five spells, and black knows how to clear the way for their creatures.

Demon of the Apocalypse

Flight
Apocalypse Demon's power and toughness are equal to the number of cards in your graveyard.
At the beginning of your upkeep, tap Apocalypse Demon unless you sacrifice another creature.

3+ Looks threatening, but there is a risk of not gaining any advantage. Fortunately, the conditions on the demon are not too harsh and you can keep it tapped for the time being, and you can turn it around with a spell.
In any case, the opportunity to fly to your opponent on 15+ should not be neglected.

Tormentor of the Doomwhip

When Banewhip Tormentor enters the battlefield, you can put a -1/-1 counter on target creature.
, Sacrifice Banewhip Tormentor: Destroy target creature with a -1/-1 counter on it.

4 A very strong thing. For 4 mana you can destroy any creature, or for three you can blow away a small one and wait for the right moment to do something else.
It's disappointing that in Hour of Destruction there is no way to dig it back up to use it again, but there are such methods in Amonkhet, so not all is lost :)

5 So far, Reckoning Bontu looks like something beyond the pale, especially in limited. This card can get you out of big problems, even if the mana absolutely refuses to come and missing one mana untap is a small price to pay for such a bomb.
There are also promising connections: for example,

Damned Horde

: Target attacking Zombie gains Indestructible until end of turn. (Damage and effects that say "destroy" do not destroy it. However, if its toughness is 0 or less, it is sent to its owner's graveyard.)

can give your zombies indestructibility before you clear the table.

3 Can be taken with anything, but a zombie, which is fashionable in the Hour of Destruction, and flies at 3.

Death

Choose one -

3+ An excellent thing for constructed, but here it is limited and there will be situations when you don’t like the card.
At the end of the game, there are no more threats in your hands, and with a significant number of creatures on the board, your opponent can choose something weak.
But

Death

Choose one -
Target opponent banishes a creature it controls.
Target opponent reveals his hand. You choose a non-land card from it. Banish that card.

exiles the card with both halves, which deserves a plus in the edition with Immortalization.

Dream Thief

Threat

3+ I have always loved it for its ability to spoil my opponents’ nerves and hand.
If

Dream Thief

Threat
Each time the Dream Thief deals combat damage to a player, that player discards the same number of cards.
Immortalize (, exile this card from your graveyard: Create a token that is a copy of it, but is also a 4/4 black Zombie Human Sorcerer with no mana cost. Immortalize as a sorcery only.)

receives a boost, then the opponent may be left without cards already on the fourth turn, but, like discard in general, this entertainment is good at the beginning of the game.
At the end you will have a skinny creature looking to dig in as quickly as possible. Therefore, 3+, but I will definitely play like this. I love .

2/3 Just one cycle and the card is exchanged with a much more serious fighter. If you can’t provide a decent amount of cycle, then it’s better not to take the card into the army. Moreover, it’s not even a zombie!

4 Excellent removal, solves almost any problem. Even if this is just a 1 for 1 exchange (unless the opponent has two identical gods), but this does not make the card anything worse than 1-2 picks. Indestructibility, Immortalization, Embalming - none of this will help the creature.

3 In the aggressive world of Amonkhet, you need second drops with a second attack. The card also has a zombie type and bonus Suffering, so it won’t be left without work.

3+ Whatever the developers can come up with, as long as they don’t re-release it. The card needs a creature under your control, which limits its effectiveness, but even with all this, the card is strong.

2+ Perpetuate puts black creatures, so black Defeat is the most playable of all.
More than half of the decks will contain targets for the card, but this is still not a reason to play it in the core.

3 Not the best deck filler, but not the worst either. Most likely, you will want to put a creature with the fourth attack on turn four, both when putting pressure on your opponent and when defending against pressure.

3+ There are enough zombies in the color for black to learn to defend himself, but the card is good even without this. A 3/3 creature on turn three will provide heavy pressure in any deck with black, which means Bone Crusher should be played.

Merciless Eternal

, Discard a card: Merciless Eternal gets +2/+2 until end of turn.

3+ Very dangerous card. When calculating the trouble of an attack, your opponent will have to take into account that this is a 4/4 creature, which will cause him headaches and suffering.

2+ The picture is great and I want a foil like this, but to include a wall in the deck you need to not plan early attacks and be sure that the opponent is aggro. And even in this case, the walls do not roll in the edition where there is Suffering.

Razaket, Mudblood

Flying, Trample
Pay 2 life, sacrifice another creature: Search your library for a card and put that card into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

3+ I would only risk playing this in a green deck where you can put the demon in earlier than usual. For the rest, 8 mana is too heavy, although we have to admit that the card is strong.

3 Five mana is expensive for finding your favorite card, even for limited, but the cycle makes peace a little with this high cost. In a blue-black deck on a cycle, I would play this without a second thought, but for the rest - only if you have something so fierce that you definitely need to look for it. God, strong planeswalker,

Bontu's Final Reckoning

Destroy all creatures. Lands you control do not untap during your next untap step.

and so on in the same spirit.

3- Something needs to be done to stop huge monsters, and it’s useful to banish cards here, so there’s no shame in playing a rat in a defensive deck.
In those aimed at attacking, you need to think about why you need a creature that runs only one at a time.
It’s a pity, of course, that in order to expel the card the rat needs to die itself, and this is not so easy to achieve.

3+ Chain of Life corrects the card's shortcomings: not the most effective parameters for a fairly decent price. The hit race (aka Damage race) is too important to ignore such arguments.

4 I really don’t like cards where the opponent has to choose for himself. I usually assume that my opponent is smart and will definitely choose differently than I want, but Torture by Hail of Fire is capable of terrible things and all because of X in price.
It will be especially scary with the green color due to overclocking, or if you know how to quickly take down hits and the opponent will not be able to excuse himself by losing life.

2+ In a prolonged game, the spell can cause problems, but usually it will be that over the course of the entire game he will discard a couple of no longer needed lands and lose 3 lives once.
Doesn't look like a must-play card.

3+ Very cool removal with options. The card is still the opponent’s choice of what he likes more (more precisely, he doesn’t like less), but this is only a pleasant bonus to a good main effect...

2/4 Either an incomprehensible wall, or a very dangerous creature in its archetype.

Without Weakness

Target creature you control gains Indestructible until end of turn. (Damage and effects that say "destroy" do not destroy it. However, if its toughness is 0 or less, it is sent to its owner's graveyard.)
Cycle (, discard this card: Draw a card.)

2+ Repelling removal can be useful, and there is a cycle in case it is not needed, but in general, the card does not provide any special advantages, so I would play if there is a bomb that I want to cover.

2+ This may be necessary if you have a camel deck (that is, excuse me, a zombie deck). This can be useful if you have a desert-based deck.
Well, this can come in handy if you have nothing to fill the second slot with. Otherwise, I would prefer to use cards that are more effective.

Review of red cards in the limited edition “Hour of Destruction”

3+ Another great card that gives you a choice of two effects. This is not Kaladesh, but there are harmful artifacts, and 3 damage to a creature is never superfluous, so the card is a must for use in red decks.

3- A trick atypical for color. Not the strongest, but the -1/-1 token is forever, and frying your opponent is a pleasant thing.
There are several important first defense cards in Hour of Destruction, so the card may be more serious than it seems at first glance.
I wouldn't play them in large numbers, but I'll always be happy with one in the deck...

3+ Contender for the title of best second drop and king of the table.
You can attack 6/6 creatures with them and they will retreat in fear, and with a small number of hits the opponent will have to get nervous and surrender the creatures.

Chandra's Defeat

3+ The card is designed to clear out the aggressive crowd of the opponent’s creatures, but this will be done when it is too late to stop the aggression. However, for the price it is a great effect and a huge creature and when combined with the greens, which have overclock and decent defense, the Maw is quite serviceable.

Get through

Creatures you control gain trample until end of turn.
Take the card.

2+ Not easy to rate. On the one hand, you don't lose anything except one mana.
On the other hand, the Reds are usually small in attack and whether this Penetrator will be useful to you is a big question.
I would try the card in combination with green, which has traditionally large creatures, or together with mass pumping.
Otherwise, I don't think the card has much promise.

2+ If there are no second drops with properties, then you can play like that, but you have to try.

Earthshaking Khenra

Acceleration
When Earthshaker Khenra enters the battlefield, target creature whose power is less than or equal to Earthshaker Khenra's power can't block this turn.
Immortalize (, exile this card from your graveyard: Create a token that is a copy of it, but is a 4/4 black Zombie Jackal Warrior with no mana cost. Immortalize as a sorcery only.)

4 And here it is, the second drop with properties.
It supports aggression well, easily changes the attack/block to anything, so that later it can support aggression again when leaving the cemetery. There's too much to rate below a B.

Ardent Sorceress of Pain

: Ardent Sorceress of Pain deals 1 damage to target player.
, power up Ardent Sorceress of Pain: she deals 1 damage to target creature. (A spurred creature doesn't untap during your next untap step.)

4 After much torment, we now have a full-fledged pinger (a creature capable of inflicting damage per turn).
Well, maybe not quite full-fledged, due to the boost, but it shoots at players properly.
It’s also a card that can spur on an opponent’s turn and a third drop that can attack for 3, so it’s a well-deserved 4.

3 The second drop, capable of throwing in a couple of extra damages, gives me confidence.

Frontline Devastator

Suffering 2 (Whenever this creature becomes blocked, the defending player loses 2 life.)
: Frontline Ravager gets +1/+0 until end of turn.

3+ Very decent addition to the deck. Due to the increasing attack, it can exchange with anyone, and two hits will not be superfluous to the opponent.
I would also play in an aggressive deck. She removes hit points very quickly and a little Suffering on the map will be very useful as a way to finish off an already strengthened opponent.

Gilded Horntooth

Whenever Gilded Horntooth attacks, if you control Desert or have a Desert card in your graveyard, target creature can't block this turn.

3 Or 3+, if you didn’t forget to add deserts.

Hazoret's Unquenchable Fury

Shuffle your library, then exile the top four cards. You can play any number of nonland cards among them with a converted mana cost of 5 or less without paying their mana cost. Lands you control do not untap during your next untap step.

4- A very optimistic picture against the backdrop of all these defeatist things like

Rhonas's Last Fight

Create a 5/4 green Snake creature token. Lands you control do not untap during your next untap step.

And

Chandra's Defeat

Chandra's defeat deals 5 damage to target red creature or red planeswalker. If that permanent is Chandra's planeswalker, you can discard the card. If you do, draw a card.

.
I'm saddened by what's happening in Amonkhet and worried that the game's story will go further with other Planeswalkers.
At the time of writing this review, the full story of the Hour of Destruction has not yet been released and I don’t know how it all ended.
But the fact that the Hazoret card is not about the last battle gives us hope that not everything is lost.

Let's return to the map.
As you can see from the rating, in theory I like it, but it’s still a lottery in which you can play 4 good cards for free, or you can look at 4 lands, and also skip playing cards.
Statistics say about 2+ cards, which motivates me to at least try.
P.S. If you don't believe in your luck, don't even try :)
I don't want to be responsible for your defeats.

5 Here it is, the fifth picture from the Plot Twist series. The turn is bleak, but the card is strong.
Massive damage to creatures is traditionally good, and this is also for a small price and as much as five.

We are talking about new sets for the CCG “Magic: The Gathering”.

This summer, new collectible card game sets appeared on the shelves of various hobby centers. "Magic: The Gathering". "Hour of Destruction"— continuation of the release "Amonkhet"(we already talked about it once), which touches on the topic of Ancient Egypt and its mythology.

The very title of the release hints at something terrible happening in the world of Amonkhet. Indeed, a gate to the world of the dead has opened there, from which after some time the ominous God-Pharaoh will emerge with his mighty army of the dead. Anyone interested in reading the full story can read it in full on the game's official website.

In the current release, the heroes to whom Planeswalker sets are dedicated are the mighty elf Nyssa and the invincible dragon Nikol. Let's take a closer look at each of the characters.

Nyssa is a boring hero in terms of history, who can be described in just a couple of phrases. She is a green-eyed elf associated with nature. Its colors are green and blue, which means that the deck will have quite a lot of creatures and sorcery cards, and the player will be able to carry out all kinds of manipulations. Perhaps the most unusual card in this deck was Nissa's Inspiration. It allows you to immediately draw three cards from your library or graveyard at once, including a Planeswalker card, which will certainly be useful in battle.

Nicol Bolas, a powerful dragon who has lived for several millennia, turned out to be much more interesting in the release. This is a ruthless killer capable of destroying entire worlds. And all his actions are aimed only at proving his greatness over other creatures of the Multiverse.

What's unusual about Nikola's deck is that it has three colors - red, black and blue - which can be challenging when first getting to know the deck. Inside, however, there are some interesting cards. For example, Zombie Manticore, which has the ability "Suffering", which debuted in “Hour of Destruction” (the gist is this: the player who defends against attacks receives additional damage). The deck also has a lot of instant spells, which are typical of the red color.

Hidden inside each Planeswalker pack is a pre-built 60-card deck, as well as two booster packs (15 cards each) and a game guide. In principle, within a few games you can understand how each deck works and what its strengths and weaknesses are. In the future, it can be supplemented with cards from booster packs included in the set or purchased separately.

As always, Planeswalker sets are a great entry point for newcomers to try Magic: The Gathering. "Hour of Destruction" expands the story of "Amonkhet", an unusual ancient Egyptian world filled with all sorts of strange creatures and secrets. Let's see what the developers will surprise us with next time - the release of a new (and major) release will take place this fall.

Good afternoon Would you like to talk about Magic: The Gathering for a moment? In truth, a minute will not be enough: the conversation will be long, but interesting.

Events

Let's assume you don't know how to play Magic yet. You heard about it from your friends, but it seemed to you that it was too complicated a game, and you were embarrassed to ask for details. And in vain - experienced players will be happy to teach you, if you wish! Moreover, there are special people, special places and even special days for training. For example, Magic Open House is a new format event supported by the game manufacturer. Of course, you can come to your nearest store (you can find it on the official website) to learn how to play “Magic” any day, but by participating in the Magic Open House, you can get much more. For example, they give unique cards for bringing a friend. In general, on the day of Magic Open House, everything is done for beginners - they are brought together, introduced to the cards and rules, and then they participate in their first tournament. Recently, events began to be held regularly in Russia: the first took place in April, the second on July 1.

On July 1, at the Magic Open House in the Moscow club "Unicorn" you could get boosters for photos with the authors of "World of Fantasy" and "Gaming Mania"

Heroes

You played your first game and you liked it. What to do next? For beginners who want to both stay in the know and have good, fresh cards in their hands, Planeswalker decks are suitable. These are sets specially assembled around the central characters of “Magic” - powerful travelers around the worlds. There are dozens of amazing characters among them, but there is one who rises above them all.

Nicol Bolas is the main antagonist of Magic. This card can be found in Hour of Devastation booster packs. He also received a separate Planeswalker deck with the card “Nichol Bolas, the Deceiver”

This is the ancient dragon Nicol Bolas. He once possessed unprecedented power, much greater than that of other gods, and his goal is to return and increase his former power. In a broad sense, everything that happens in the Multiverse, including the latest events in Zendikar, Innistrad, Kaladesh and Amonkhet, is part of Nicol Bolas's larger plan. Even the Guardians, a team of the most powerful Planeswalkers, were ultimately assembled only at Bolas's request. And in the new set “Hour of Destruction,” the dragon finally makes it clear to them.

The Guardians have defeated enemies on every world in which they have operated as a team. This was the case before Amonkhet

The cards in the new set illustrate the dramatic changes that have taken place in the world of Amonkhet. Naktamun is destroyed, the temples are desolate. What about the gods - the defenders of Amonkhet? It turns out that they, like all the other inhabitants of the world, were deceived by the God-Pharaoh, who divided the gods, and now set them against each other.

The plot of the set is full of biblical references - for example, Egyptian plagues

The great thing about Hour of Destruction is that it is just a show of force and a test of Nicol Bolas' capabilities. And the cruel dragon’s skills go beyond the imagination, as players could see at the Prerelease on July 8–9.

Hour of Devastation Prerelease Impressions

What is a Prerelease? On this day, players can play with new cards for the first time, reveal valuable promo cards and prepare for the release, which will take place in a week (that is, tomorrow). On Saturday, July 8, this event was attended by your humble servant along with colleagues from Igromania.

Prerelease games are played in a sealed format. Players are given a set with six boosters - opaque bags of 15 cards, from which they need to assemble their own deck (ideally, exactly 40 cards), united by common colors and ideas.

Personally, my impressions of the game were the most positive. The new set constantly demonstrates its cunning! Take, for example, cards with “torture”. Scarab Torture can cause a lot of problems in the mid-game if you don't add a counter-spell tool to your deck. A very unpleasant acquaintance happened with the Scarab God, who casts a spell on the deck, returns creatures from the cemetery in the form of zombies and immediately inflicts damage on you with the number of these zombies.

In Hour of Destruction, the player can play the role of a villain, using cunning techniques and unleashing terrible creatures into battle.

The “perpetuation” and “suffering” mechanics are interesting. “Immortalization” is similar to the “embalming” already familiar from Amonkhet - with one significant difference: the immortalized creature returns stronger than it was. Creatures with “suffering” are only available in black, blue and red. If the enemy releases such a fighter against you, you have to decide whether to block him or not. By blocking it, you will lose lives equal to the cost of "suffering". But choosing not to block a creature can also backfire - as is the case with Eternal Flame.

Nicol Bolas knew the weaknesses of each of the Guardians, and they could not oppose him.

* * *

It's good to be bad, isn't it? Now you have the opportunity to look at the world through the eyes of Nicol Bolas - and destroy this world. The "hour of destruction" is the time when evil has triumphed. This is an exciting set and well worth playing.
