Fallout 4 clear the blockage in the castle. Where to get the quest

Exploring Vault 88 in the new addition Vault-Tec Workshop for assumes unlocking all possible sites for construction in an underground settlement. Also from the sectors you can get to the surface in the Commonwealth. Thanks to the new construction elements that are noted Gear icon (in workshop), players were given the chance to create a shelter of their own design. And if earlier it was necessary to use not the best furniture to furnish homes, now clean items from the pre-war years appeared. In Vault 88, all settlers can receive matching blue suits and a Pipboy.

Below we will look in detail at where there are construction sites in the new shelter, and what their features are. For unlocking all three sectors you can get Better Living Undergroud achievement/trophy.

Fallout 4: Vault-Tec - all sectors in Vault 88

Vault 88 Lobby. To gain access you must complete the task " The best life is underground" Then access to the task " Explore Vault 88", which will allow you to unlock three sectors: Northeast, eastern, northern.

In each sector you need to activate a workshop, for which you will initially need to find the Vault-Tek Control Board. Each board is located in its own sector. After activating the workshop, go through the sector again with the construction mode active and clear the rubble and walls in order to open new passages and mines with uranium, bosses, mobs and nuclear material.

Northern sector in Vault 88 Fallout 4: Vault-Tec

In the underground. From the lobby, turn strictly left, remove the rubble and go through the cave down and through the tunnels. Sooner or later you will reach the metro. You will need a second tunnel, where turn left and there will be a Control Board on the wall on the nightstand near the container.

Opposite there is a wooden boarded up door. If you remove it and climb the stairs, you can exit the shelter to the surface in the area Milton Hospital (traffic hatch).

Here it is located the only source of water for the settlement in Vault 88 - Vault-Tec water pump. There is no quest for it. After you activate the sector and the workshop, connect it to the generator. The peculiarity of the station is that the connection box is very high. Therefore, it is more convenient to place the generator on some hill. Build a small platform from ladders and floors, for example, near the pump itself. After that, click Activate.

For unlocking all three sectors you can get achievement/trophy Better Living Undergroud. In addition, in each sector in workshop mode, look for walls and remove them. Behind them, passages open into uranium mines and tunnels that will lead, by short or long route, back to the center of Vault 88.

In addition to a huge number of story quests, there are many additional missions from different factions in Fallout 4. “Old Guns” is a small task, by completing which you can earn respect from the Minutemen faction, as well as additional experience and replenishment of first aid kits and ammunition. You will find a complete walkthrough of the quest in this review.

Where can I get the quest?

As is common in Fallout 4, Old Guns can be unlocked in several ways, but the quest can only be obtained after capturing the castle in the Assault on Fort Independence mission. Some time after clearing the facility from the swamp family, Preston Garvey will contact the player. If this does not happen, then you should listen to Radio Liberty. In one of the broadcasts there will be a note about the capture of the castle, and the “survivor” will be invited to a meeting. A quest will appear, and the player must make a short trip through the Fallout 4 wasteland to continue it.

Lock

Let's go to our destination. Inside we will find Ronnie Shaw, who will tell you that once in the past she was one of the Minutemen and served under the leadership of former General McGann. Now she wants to return to the ranks of the faction back, but Ronnie does not want to go there empty-handed. Then she will invite the hero to explore the old dungeons and arsenals of the castle, which is what we will do later in the game Fallout 4.

"Old guns" Walkthrough

First, Ronnie and I will approach the old door. It will not be possible to open it from this side, so we are looking for an emergency entrance. We explore the castle with the woman and find the office of the commander-in-chief. There is a hidden passage in this room. To find it, enter construction mode and clear the rubble. Now you will find your way into the castle tunnels.

In these dungeons, which are a labyrinth of rooms and corridors, devastation reigns: many rooms are littered, garbage and dirt are everywhere, but can such a picture scare a Fallout 4 explorer? “Old Guns” is a quest that will take you through the tunnels of the castle, but be careful - there are booby traps installed in some places. If Ronnie Shaw gets blown up by one of them, she will not die, but will say that she can't see well in the dark and ask the player to move forward. There is also a turret installed in one of the rooms.

The exit from the catacombs is guarded by a robot sergeant who will begin to attack the player as soon as he notices him. This quest boss is quite dangerous and you will have to spend a fair amount of ammo on him. He can be lured to the door in which the robot will get stuck. In this case, the player will be able to kill him quite easily and quickly. If this does not happen, then it is better to stock up on impulse and explosive grenades. After all, this is the most difficult enemy in the Fallout 4 mission “Old Guns”, the passage of which we are analyzing.

Western Bastion

After defeating the sergeant, the player, along with Shaw, should go to the last room, which contains the corpse and personal terminal of the previous Minutemen general McGann. The computer cannot be broken, but Ronnie knows the password for it, so the girl can easily hack the program that opens the door to the arsenal.

The castle's armory is a real treasury. Here you will find a large number of different weapons and ammunition, which will be very useful when passing Fallout 4. The items that will be needed soon are several smoke bombs lying on the table. Don't forget to take them before leaving the armory.

Now you need to talk to Ronnie. She will tell you about the design of the weapon, and also explain what materials you will need for it. Now take the instructions and go into construction mode. You can install a weapon in any available place, and then assign a settler to it.

Artillery testing

Now, in order to continue the Fallout 4 quest “Old Guns”, you need to check the operation of the gun. Talk to Ronnie: the character will offer to tune in to Radio Liberty. Now throw the one mentioned earlier into the firing zone. If the radio was turned on at that moment, the broadcast will be interrupted, and Shaw will report the start of the shelling. The bombardment will begin in a couple of seconds, so the player should move away. When the cannonade ends, Shaw will speak about the success of the operation.

Sometimes it happens that a checker was thrown, but the shelling never began. Many players are talking about this bug. If this happens to you, then try moving further away from the castle, for example to Andrew Station, and then return to your destination. This time Ronnie will announce the completion of this stage of the task. All that remains is to return to the Minutemen and talk with Preston Garvey, after which the quest in the Fallout 4 game “Old Guns” will be over.

For completing this task you will be awarded 372 experience points. You will also have the opportunity to buy from Ronnie Shaw a unique weapon that causes increased damage to enemy limbs, as well as ammunition for it. But you can make such a purchase only after 10 am. The player should also take into account that if he is at enmity with the Institute, the quest to protect the base from synthetics will immediately begin.

On July 26, 2016, the fifth addition to the game Fallout 4 was released on PC, Xbox One and PS4. It was called “Vault-Tec Workshop”, and is an opportunity to create a shelter for various experiments. One of these shelters was named "Vault 88".

"Vault 88" - a new addition to Fallout

One of your main goals in the Fallout 4 Vault 88 add-on is to rebuild an abandoned shelter. You will have to use many innovations, such as Workshop tools. You need to invite residents to the place you build. Pre-war furniture and beautiful decorative objects are also available, as well as new places, such as a hair salon and a surgical salon, which will provide new opportunities for changes in appearance. You will also be able to subject your shelter neighbors to experiments that are approved by the Workshop. There are a lot of new devices for this.

Fallout 4: where is Vault 88?

To find Vault 88, you need to find the Quincy Quarry. The place you need is underneath it. From the moment it is found, the card replaces the Quarry object with Vault 88.

Entrance to Vault 88

The place itself is a large area underground that moves north towards University Point. In order to rebuild it, you are provided with a huge amount of uranium and limestone, which you need to look for in the tunnels around the shelter area. The entire construction campaign is in your hands.

In Fallout 4, the question arises: how to build Vault 88? The entire territory will be gradually rebuilt by you and filled with residents during the completion of quests.

Fallout 4: Vault 88 quests

  • During the quests “Energy for People”, “Waterhole”, “Vision of the Future” you will be assigned tasks, to complete which you will need to carry out one of four experiments. We work everything out on Clem first.
  • After activating the board, the quest add-on “Exploring Vault 88” will open. In it, you must examine all sectors of Vault 88 for the presence of workshops in them. During the game you will find control boards - three in total.
  • In A Better Life Below, you have to find Anderson, who is a feral ghoul. You also need to fight other ghouls and get the Vault-Tec control board.
  • “Call of Vault-Tek” is the first quest of the add-on. His main goal is to visit Vault 88. To do this, you have to pick up Vault 88's frequency with a radio, find it near the Quincy Quarry, destroy the raiders who guard it, and go inside.
  • “Citizen Model” is the third quest, in which you will again have to fight ghouls, communicate with the surviving Overseer, and activate the payment that you obtained in previous battles. This will help attract new residents to the Vault.
  • After completing the objectives of the previous quest, “Citizen Model” will continue. To complete Vault 88 in Fallout 4, you need to talk to the residents to determine the best test subject. He will be a man named Clem - you will conduct all the experiments on him.
  • And the last quest is “Lady Luck”. It is short and useful. You have to make a slot machine that does not require any special equipment. As a result, upon completion of the construction of the machine, you will receive the “Legend of Vault 88” jumpsuit from Overseer Barstow. It will help you in the fight against ghouls, as it reduces damage from them by 15%.

Vault 88's experimentsFallout

Experimentation plays a very important role in supplementation. In total you can conduct 4 experiments:

  • To check the eyesight of residents you need to use a Phoropter.
  • An exercise bike on which you can get energy, with the help of it and a buffout you can increase your performance, simply spin the exercise bike, increasing your endurance.
  • The soda machine works by adding hallucinogens, antidepressants, or creating a mixture of Nuka Cola and caffeine. Increases energy production.
  • The slot machine increases the luck of the residents and gives them joy.

Enemies in Vault 88 dungeons

As you progress through the game, you will encounter many enemies:

  • Some places are guarded by a robot security guard.
  • Deathclaws, which are very formidable opponents in close combat.
  • Wild ghouls that hide in dungeons. They can often be confused with ordinary corpses or not visible in the dark.
  • Mole rats that can attack suddenly, digging a hole right in front of your feet.
  • You should also be wary of radscorpions, who also hide in the ground and can attack at any moment.
  • You can also meet Bolotnikov here.

Secrets of Vault 88 in Fallout 4:

  • Your level does not affect the level of your opponents.
  • In order for you to have 100 units of water, you need to find a pump in the caves of the location.
  • There are three entrances to Vault 88: the main entrance, through the University Point Pharmacy, and through Milton Hospital.

It is worth noting that the task will not appear immediately, so you can go do other side effects. Then return to the fort and talk to Preston Garvey. He will direct us to a Minuteman named Ronnie Shaw.

Ronnie will tell you that when the castle was under the rule of the faction, the Minutemen created a hidden arsenal under it, where there are still a lot of weapons, and they would be useful in the Commonwealth lago. The main character (that is, we) agrees to the quest and with several volunteers, including Ronnie Shaw, we go to complete the “Old Guns”.

Fallout 4 task old guns walkthrough

Getting into the castle basements is very easy - an NPC will show us a blocked tunnel and we need to select the construction mode. Then we clear out the rubble, as we did before in other settlements. When the passage is open, we go down inside and the fun begins.

It is worth noting that inside, pay attention to the walls and floor, as there are a lot of traps in the form of mines, automatic turrets and trip wires. Don't forget to use the VATS system.

Before opening the treasured door, you need to deal with the boss - the robot security guard Sergeant. The enemy is quite strong and often fires volleys of missiles, from which the main character dies even on easy difficulty.

Advice: to prevent the robot from always being hit by missiles, do not go out into the main hall, but shoot from the corridor from where you came. It is best to use grenades, laser weapons, launchers, miniguns or energy cannons. The squad members are immortal, so they often divert the Sergeant’s fire onto themselves - attack at this time.

Fallout 4 artillery installation

After defeating the robot, an arsenal opens where you can take the necessary weapons and ammunition. Also pick up a drawing of an artillery installation - a defense feature for settlements and a quest item.

We speak with Ronnie Shaw and she gives a quest to build an installation. Open construction mode and go to the “Special” tab. When built, do not forget to appoint one of the inhabitants of the castle for defense.

We speak with Ronnie again, and she gives a quest to test the artillery mount. We get to the diner (where we met with the team at the very beginning of the assault) and throw a smoke bomb, where the marker is marked, and quickly run away.

Vault 88 Fallout 4 from the Vault-Tec Workshop add-on is an unfinished bunker under the Quincy quarries. The Vault-Tec company had just begun its construction when the Great War began. A survivor can complete Vault 88 and turn it into one of his best settlements.

Description of Vault 88

By the time the Great War began, the bunker was just beginning to be built. Therefore, it cannot be called a refuge in the full sense of the word - after all, it is rather an unfinished project. But the project is very large - the excavated areas extend for many kilometers underground.

Vault 88 in Fallout 4 is an entrance section and a small atrium section located in a huge network of caves. The nuclear explosion collapsed the vaults in many places, so mountains of debris and earth lie everywhere. To get inside beyond the entrance section, you will have to restore the Workshop and clear away the rubble. Quite powerful raiders (killers, survivalists, scavengers, and others) have settled in the Canyons, where the entrance is located. They tried to get inside the bunker, but the Survivor interrupted their fruitless attempts. It is not recommended to enter here before level 30 in Fallout 4.

Unfortunately, at the start of Fallout 4, only construction materials had been delivered to the bunker and several sections had been built. The main work on the construction and improvement of the unfinished building will have to be done by the Survivor, turning it into another settlement.

Vault 88 Dwellers

Sufficient labor was used during construction. And all the people who participated in the project were buried in the unfinished Shelter after the fall of the first nuclear bombs. Despite the great depth and any kind of protection from radiation, all the workers either died immediately or were destroyed. Most of them went wild.

Of the adequate population of the bunker, only Valerie Barstow, the Caretaker, remained, who was locked in the dungeons after the fall of nuclear bombs and was gulified. She was the only one who was able to maintain her sanity and not go wild during 210 years of isolation. This ghoul is a story character in the entire Fallout 4 Vault-Tec Workshop expansion. It is she who will give tasks related to the construction and development of the Vault, as well as social experiments on the settlers.

Oddly enough, in the bunker, sealed for 210 years, you can find mutants: Deathclaw, several swampers (including the queen and the king), several radscorpions, as well as a brood of mole rats with a queen. How they got underground is unknown.

Additionally, if a Survivor decides to build in Fallout 4, settlers will live here. The more settlers there are in Vault 88, the more interesting experiments will be carried out. And the bunker itself will look more “alive”, almost like a real shelter that managed to survive until the events of the game.

Social experiment in the Vault

The research planned by Vault-Tec did not even begin, since Vault 88 did not have time to be completed. According to the documents and knowledge of the surviving Overseer, scientists intended to replace actions necessary for the body, but unnecessary for society, with supposedly “useful” ones. The following set of experiments was proposed for Fallout 4:

  1. Exercise bike. Connected to a dynamo, which allows you to generate additional energy when pedaling. You can force a settler to pedal to the limit of his capabilities (then he will die in the evening), force him to use the exercise machine around the clock (give a buffout, and then after removing him from the exercise machine the person will die). There is a third option - the settler pedals in a moderate mode during the day and rests at night. This mode increases the Survivor's Stamina by one.
  2. Soda machine. Allows you to quietly give hallucinogens, antidepressants or caffeine to settlers. Generates resources with the help of settlers or increases their joy by 15 units, depending on the mode.
  3. Photoropter. Eye test machine. In different operating modes it can increase joy (show hallucinogenic images or treat eye diseases), monitor the Vault. The device is capable of increasing the Survivor's Perception by one unit for a while.
  4. Slot machine. The resident had to gamble. Depending on the settings of the machine, the player could always win or lose, as well as play a “draw” with the machine. Increases the joy of settlers or brings caps to the Survivor, and can also increase his Luck by 1 for some time.

Oddly enough, Warden Barstow doesn't like options that don't harm the settlers. She considers them too “soft” and unreliable from the point of view of experiments. Therefore, if you do not want to spoil your relationship with the Overseer, you will have to choose more stringent test options. Otherwise, after completing a series of quests, she will leave Vault 88, and it will not be possible to persuade her to stay. If you perform functions that are dangerous or harmful to the settlers, Valerie will be delighted. And then you can beg her to stay in charge of the new settlement, and not go on a trip.

Secrets of Vault 88

Upon completion of the Fallout 4 expansion questline, the Survivor will automatically become the Vault 88 Overseer. There is a corresponding achievement. However, this achievement will not be counted if Valerie remains in the bunker - then she will be considered the Caretaker, and not the protagonist. There are several options on how to become the main one: kill the ghoul, drive her out of the settlement, or simply not ask to stay after the completion of the expansion storyline.
